Dr Rotwang!

I have no idea why, but I'm very excited about this game.

In brief: No, it's not a retro-clone of Gamma World.  It's a science-fantasy implementation of Labyrinth Lord, definitely inspired by Gamma World, although the designers never use the words "Gamma World".

I've never even played Gamma World.  I don't care.  This game sounds fun.

Wheeeee!

Age of Fable

I'm especially interested in the fact that it's going to be compatible with 'Labyrinth Lord'.
free resources:
Teleleli The people, places, gods and monsters of the great city of Teleleli and the islands around.
Age of Fable \'Online gamebook\', in the style of Fighting Fantasy, Lone Wolf and Fabled Lands.

I'm really hopeful about Mutant Future, as it's clearly aimed at an old school audience but it isn't a retread.  We need more stuff like that.

I'm interested in this.  I've sort of moved past my full-on PA phase, but I still haven't quite gamed it to my satisfaction, so I'll be keeping an eye out for Mutant Future.

I'm very excited to get this out! It should be released within the next couple of weeks.

It is heavily inspired by classic post-apocalypse games. It does assume a high power level, but there is a chapter on converting it to more "scaled" play like in Labyrinth Lord, where power level increases more by level and characters start out weak.

When played by the default assumptions, characters in Mutant Future begin pretty tough.

Question:  Percentile chart for random mutations or what?

 Absolutely.

EDIT: though if the Mutant Lord allows, mutations may be chosen.

I might have to pick this up.  I've always liked the idea of Gamma World but never liked any of the rule systems in the various editions of it.

I'm also looking forward to this!!

Dr Rotwang!

Well, I already have an opening scene mapped out, for an adventure: The PCs, in a school bus, gunning down a dusty desert highway, fleeing a trio of giant, mutant bees...who think the bus is their queen.

That's awesome man. Mutant Future can certainly be played in many styles, from gonzo to semi-serious. Although I'd say the overall tone of the book is playful, but not too much so I hope.

It seems pretty damn gamma-worldly to me.  I don't get why they made a point of stating that they're not like gamma world. That's just confusing.

My point is that Mutant Future is not directly a retro-clone of a specific book. The reason I tried to make that clear is that some people might otherwise expect a rules set that is directly compatible with a certain 1e science fantasy game.

Sorry if that seems confusing. But, it's true that in "flavor" you'll definitely find what your expecting.

Say -- outta curiosity, here, chief -- why isn't it a retro-clone of, umn, " a certain 1e science fantasy game"?

I'm not challenging you, I'm just wondering.  Frankly I think the decision t make it an adaptation of LL was a good one but I wonder why, you know, it's not a "Gamma World" retro-clone.

The real question is, why should it be? ;)

I actually thought a lot about making it a direct clone. Part of what makes Labyrinth Lord a good clone is that so many terms are already in the SRD, so not much needed to be changed. This isn't true for 1e science fantasy. So in the end I'd have to change so much, especially about mutations, that it wouldn't be as easily compatible.

But the biggest reason is that I wanted to have a little fun with it, and add a bit of my own stamp to it. There are different goals in mind with Mutant Future than there were with Labyrinth Lord. I wanted Mutant Future to essentially have all the things I like from 1e science fantasy, but operating under the Labyrinth Lord rules. This makes these two rule sets more easily interchangeable for maximum gonzo potential.

So yeah, in short, the reason is basically just because that's the way I wanted to do it.:p
