This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Wonder why those ruins are still standing after a millenium? Maybe a [strike]wizard[/strike] Roman built it.

One of the more interesting elective courses I took in college was on ancient engineering, so I eat shit like this up with a spoon. If you like to be able to explain the 'how' of things in your game-world, a little bit of engineering and chemistry knowledge goes a long way - in the case of engineering, the devices used to build massive structures can be as interesting as the structures themselves, and creative players will often put them to good use.

Now that is pretty cool. I can think of a lot places to use this. Thanks!

Roman concrete was certainly astounding.   It's amazing how some structures built at the same time can vanish without a trace while others endure.
