This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Mutant Chronicles rides again

Quote from: baragei;626800There are instances of flavour-text in MC 1/2 that implies horrible mutations striking both the low- and highborn, branding the unfortunates as heretics.
The designers seem to have overlooked that little detail in the game itelf, though.. They did put in necrotech and corruption, but little mutation.

And Catelf; if you want your wubbits in MC, have you seen this?

Exactly I think the mutations appearing is a great story, plus what's left on earth so I think that's a line we'll be exploring since I think 'mutant' or 'mutation' is one of the important themes of MC

That is great!

Even if there is not any anthros, i'm happy that someone finally adds mutants to Mutant Cronicles.
I used to mockingly call it "Graveyard Cronicles", since there were undead instead of mutants in it.
As a setting in itself (without the name) i thought it was ... ok, not bad.
It did seem to promise a little more than it kept, though ...
It is like ... the two cardgames, Warzone and Dark Eden, was far more complete.
Same with the Boardgames: The Citadel and The Clansmen.
They also felt more like they kept what they promised, while MC itself ... sadly did not.

That is mainly my opinion, though.
I may not dislike D&D any longer, but I still dislike the Chaos-Lawful/Evil-Good alignment system, as well as the level system.
;)

We'll be do it sensitive to the storyline, in essence, adding the 'mutation' theme to the deeper background story we are creating, and bringing it out in the campaigns and adventures.

That is not "mutants", that is glorified zombie-soldiers.

no no no

The zombie legionaires are the dead ones.

Necromutants are still alive, they've just been improved and had their operating system simplified.

and there are the mutations appearing within the general populace, we aim to have a stronger mutation theme that makes sense with the background story and really bringing it out from hints and clues in the original story

The name "Mutant Cronicles" implies a strong theme of mutants and/or mutation. Not just "technically not dead-yet" soldiers with dead technology?!! (Necrobionics), who thereby isn't even mutants but really some kind of "necro-borgs".
The theme of mutants should be far stronger than that .... but the first and second edition did not have that, those editions would be more truthful being called "Necro-demon Cronicles".

That is why i'm looking looking forward to this, the third edition, perhaps the first version to really deserve the name MUTANT CRONICLES.

While I somewhat agree with you on this(although I suspect on a lesser scale), I think the 2nd.edition totally deserved it's name.
Because it still is 14 different kinds of wholesome gaming fun, regardless of it's lack of actual mutants and frequent needs of winging it.

Indeed. Well said, this isn't Gamma World. Its a world where mutations is nasty bad stuff, that makes you corrupted and malign.

Exactly - there won't be any talking badgers and rabbits, it's terrifying changes going on at all levels of society - here and there, but of worrying to the powers in control.

Yes, but the first and second editions did not even have that!
... At least not the first edition, that's for certain.

.... I do not question wether it was as playable and entertaining as any other rpg at that time, because it was.
I just say, that it lacked the very thing that was in its name:
Mutants.
Sure, there were no "nice" mutations, but the thing is, there were NO MUTATIONS!
And, as said, the "necromutants" do not count, because they had NecroBionics, not Mutations.
... I assume they may have both in the 3'rd edition.
Necromutations and/or Demonmutations ... or simple, yet gruesome erratic mutations.
I may not dislike D&D any longer, but I still dislike the Chaos-Lawful/Evil-Good alignment system, as well as the level system.

Nah, the Necromutants are also mutated.  Accelerated degeneration through dark symetry radiation.

Still, mutations should range from the small and concealable to the large and disgusting.  Tumors and tentacles and clawed nails and thick body hair but also tumors with faces and tumors with eyes, gashes like lips that suck and whistle, hair like barbs and needles and hair that waves with a life of its own.  There should be stigmata that bleed no fluid ever seen in the human body and flesh so soft and pliant it can be spread thin like butter.  Bones with barbs that grow into horns and ridges, scales like cog wheels that unlock fleshly orifaces, dripping glands that give off sweet nectar that destroys the will and unnatural blood thick and trenchant that slows the passage of time itself.

And of course whatever gland it is that gives people living on mars a Paul Bonner musculature.
