This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Mutant Chronicles rides again

Quote from: David Johansen;629753Nah, the Necromutants are also mutated.  Accelerated degeneration through dark symetry radiation.

Still, mutations should range from the small and concealable to the large and disgusting.  Tumors and tentacles and clawed nails and thick body hair but also tumors with faces and tumors with eyes, gashes like lips that suck and whistle, hair like barbs and needles and hair that waves with a life of its own.  There should be stigmata that bleed no fluid ever seen in the human body and flesh so soft and pliant it can be spread thin like butter.  Bones with barbs that grow into horns and ridges, scales like cog wheels that unlock fleshly orifaces, dripping glands that give off sweet nectar that destroys the will and unnatural blood thick and trenchant that slows the passage of time itself.

And of course whatever gland it is that gives people living on mars a Paul Bonner musculature.

If only you were writing it :D

As an aside, how do we know necrobionics don't cause base DNA changes?

heh...I probably would if they asked you know?  I'm terribly fond of Mutant Chronicles...but it would be a bit of a deal with the devil as I tend to put my own spin on things and have little understanding or concern with what is popular or even marketable.

I did take a stab at a rules re-write a couple years back.

Well, I've always assumed that they simply caused a hyperactive reaction in the Bonner gland, causing increased Bonneresterone production resulting in the ever increasing musculature and hunchbacked issue.  Surely death is a mercy for the poor things.

Haha that's exactly what I'm thinking off!

Seriously though, yes we're thinking of some much darker, interesting mutations and how they might affect players or other characters

Quote from: ChrisBirch;629699Exactly - there won't be any talking badgers and rabbits, it's terrifying changes going on at all levels of society - here and there, but of worrying to the powers in control.

Good. The last thing we need is a second-rate Gamma World ripoff.

Oh exactly, Gamma World is fun for that particular kind of gonzo apocalypse, but Mutant Chronicles has a dark serious tone underlying the techno fantasy

From what I have seen, Mutant Chronicles is just a GrimDark version of Gamma World. Yawn.
"Meh."

It's not survivors after an ancient apocalypse though, it's corporate conspiracy, battlefronts holding against the dark legion intent on bringing humanity down from inside and out, it's troubleshooting across the solar system with technology reverted to dieselpunk levels and an ancient millenia old mystery...

That sounds like a wonderful marketting spiel, but what does it mean in terms of a game?

I don't know what you've seen, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Mutant Chronicles..

- it's corporate conspiracy - lots of adventures with a heavy investigative feel
- battlefronts holding against the dark legion intent on bringing humanity down from inside and out - quick and dirty rules for fast fun combat and conversion rules to the Warzone skirmish system
- it's troubleshooting across the solar system with technology reverted to dieselpunk levels - space ship combat, flyers and exploration of the solar system again with a fast and furious system
- and an ancient millenia old mystery - well that you'll have to find out

You are still using marketting terminology without providing much information.

What are you after?

The original ran of the swedish d20 BRP-clone(of DoD and Mutant-fame), making it a relatively straight forward game mechanically, and with gritty and detailed combat.
The new one will still use the d20, and I guess(and hope) stay close to the original system which was good, if somewhat underdeveloped. MC always had a close relationship with the skirmishes of Warzone, and it looks like they'll continue this.

The setting was Luna City, a megacity covering most of our future moon, circling an exploited and destroyed, but not quite dead Earth.
Humanity had spread to terraformed planets throughout the solar system(Mercury, Venus, Mars, the asteroid belt - there's some handwavy physics at work here..), and the various megacorps rules Luna City and have laid claim to their own planets.

A long time ago, the Dark Symmetry was unleashed into our universe, bringing demons of war, pestilence, madness and worse, almost bringing an end to humanity.
it also warped and corrupted the advanced thinking machines of mankind, rendering our technology unusable, or worse, traitorous.
The Brotherhood arose, uniting and leading humanity in defence against the Dark Legion and it's demons, mutants and undead warriors.
The Dark Legion was defeated, driven back and sealed away.
The Brotherhood forbade spacetravel beyond the asteroid belts, and the use of advanced technology to prevent the Dark Legion from returning.

During the long years since then, the Brotherhood has become the new religion, preaching the power and wisdom of the Light, the megacorps have grown bold, the corporate wars rages across vast battlefields and dark backalleys, scientists experiment with forbidden technology, and the dead won't stay in their graves..

Enter the PC's...

what he said...AND

- We're also letting PC's play during the early outbreak of the Dark Symmetry, when technology crashed and sent humanity back to a diesel punk era. A lot more cults and investigation, corporate conspiracies and exploration.

- You can play also several hundred years later as the second Dark Legion war happens allowing loads of combat orientated missions as much as the investigative and social conflict between corporations

- The game will play a lot more fast and furious and likely have a LITE mode and ADVANCED mode to add more crunch where it's needed. The idea is to make it actually feel like you are playing in this epic techno fantasy than getting bogged down in the detail.

- new systems: space travel, ageing equipment, running a company, fighting a fleet battle, or a mass land battle as a commander and other leaders, conversions to Warzone for skirmish gameplay, social conflict on the corporate ladder and more

Can you go into more detail here?
Are we talking coreBRP-lite with the option of going into Phoenix Command-insanity?

I'd much rather prefer a strong and solid core of medium complexity, allowing me to remove, add and tweak it to my tastes.
I'd rather avoid the extra work of converting it.
