This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Which setting do you prefer between Primeval Thule and Astonishing Swordsmen and Sorcerers of Hyperborea?

Please note that I am only comparing setting and not system.

I dunno about Thule, but AS&SH's Hyperborea is awful. If you are going to play in a land full of names ripped off from CAS, why not play in his actual Hyperborea?

S'mon

Well Thule is great- see sig. :) I have minimal knowledge of ASSH so won't comment.

Having refereed both, Hyperborea: Primeval Thule just had too much standard fantasy elements (dwarves, elves, etc.) for my taste (which is the same reason I never took to Bard Games' Atlantis setting), and has more of a "points of light" atmosphere. Hyperborea, on the other hand, has radioactive Viking Zombies and Undead Roman Legionaries, Atlantean Laser Pistols and Amazonian Skyships, and is a grim setting focused on survival in a post-plague torn-from-Earth-and-time atmosphere. It slotted easily into my vision of Atlantean Earth, even though it is the author's vision of his Hyperborea.  Just depends on how you like your weird fantasy.

Again, people don't all agree on what defines "sword & sorcery," so what are you looking for? Telling us that may get you more helpful answers.

If you want to shape something entire of your own without having to worry about being faithful to CAS and his Hyperborea, it's actually good option. AS&SH is quite a catch-all.
Non-native English speaker - I apologize for any unclear phrasing.
