So I was watching this video by J. Scott Garibay who called Kelsey Dionne of Shadowdark RPG the Lorraine Williams of OSR and Says that Lorraine Williams kept D&D valuable and if you do not agree your are a misogynist
A women who hated gamers was the savior of D&D. What a maroon this guy is.
*I removed the link to the video. Don't want to help his monetization *
He talked about Revisionist history. He is right but he sure is aiming it at the wrong people. Not to mention he talked about racisms in the OSR and called Venger out specifically.
This video has a couple hundred views, and all the comments are correcting things that are basic misunderstandings- likely deliberately?
This content creator you have linked is just doing outrage clickbait. I haven't watched the video yet, but based on the comments and the trivially absurd quote which enraged you enough to make this thread, you are simply participating in his profit-engine by linking him.
Also I'm suspicious of anything that is discussing Kelsey out of direct context of her products at this point. Is she a game designer or an e-celebrity? My understanding is the former, so why is she popping up in totally unrelated contexts?

Most definitely I think he is doing it deliberately.

You are right. I removed the link from the original post so I dont help him make money. From the way he talks and his channel he is a D&D/WOTC Fanboy. He talks about how D&D has slaughtered the OSR. He doesn't even know what the OSR is about.

He started talking about her and ShadowDark and then compared her to Lorraine Williams and said anyone who thinks Lorraine Williams is not the Queen of D&D and helped it keep value is a misogynist
Garibay is a total D&D 5e shill and just a troll trying to get views (as was suggested by OP).
Honestly, he's not even worth talking about.

I mean, I will grant that this is a top tier troll, it's just directed wrong. A lot of people who buy into the surface level social media lies believe that there's always some vast right wing group of faceless guys just out of view, and that bullying them is a great idea. While there are places and topics that this might be true about, almost every facet of modern social entertainment is based on this, and in most cases it's a lie. In his case, he has believed the lie enough to make a video to troll a fictional demographic- the supposed huge, idiotic, right-wing bogeyman all his favorite $CURRENT_YEAR celebrities have warned him about.
He actually has good instincts though, when it comes to formulating a troll. Maybe one day he'll find a group to troll that actually exists and get the response he wants.
This guy has been trying to troll the OSR for years and with every video he puts out, it becomes more obvious that he has no actual understanding of the OSR or even any version of D&D outside of 5e, which he totally fetishizes.

He's a total denier as well. If you ever set out the facts he deliberately ignores you. I've challenged him on a few occasions and he fucking scurries for cover.
If you make such ridiculous claims at least have the balls to defend your points. He's a total clown.

GHOSTNINJA!!!! I was just thinking yesterday about posting a thread here talking about this guy, J. Scott Garibay. Brilliant minds think alike!" *Laughing*
I watched this video--and several other of his videos, wondering what he was about. He hates the OSR. He actually said he hopes that the OSR loses, and suffers, and gets crushed. He was trying to attempt to say something about Kelsey and Shadowdark--but steppedon his own dick and got fucked up in hearing his own voice yammer on about Loraine Williams.
My conclusion after seeing a few of his videos is that this Garibay guy is a fucking clown--bitter, hostile, arrogant, smug, and also undoubtedly a Woke fucking moron.
I pondered the entertainment value of bringing his video here and my commentary about him--but decided he was just too much of Woke jackass who also didn't have anything meaningful to say. There is no *there* there, if I have that saying right. What a jackass, you know?

Nailed it.
But other than those attributes he's fine. ;D
I haven't watched the video, but Lorraine Williams did keep TSR afloat for another decade after it nearly went under, and many well-remembered products were produced under her regime. Also, the 'hated gamers' bit appears to be rumor or urban legend.

Scott G. was / is a huge fan of D&D 4th Edition, and he has played several editions of official D&D. He believes strongly that gamers owe WOTC their allegiance, and that official D&D "IS" the hobby. He loves to share his opinions with anyone who will listen. He is a huge WOTC fan boy.

That was clear, you are correct. He talks about how D&D beats the OSR but he doesn't understand that the OSR is trying to recreate the old school, non overcomplicated fantasy game play.
The OSR isn't trying to beat D&D, it's doing it's own thing

I hate people like that. I dont think he is trying to defend his points, as mentioned earlier I think he is just going for outrage to drive up views.

The OSR isnt competing with D&D (at least not that I can tell). It's doing their own thing.

Yep when I heard him talk about inclusiveness (which has always been there) my eyes started to roll into the back of my head. Sure, there are probably jerks who wont let women or certain people play, but no matter what D&D does that's not going to change. WOTC has no control over my game or anyone else's game.

Yeah. I think she gets more of the blame than she deserves. D&D in the 80's got a huge bump from the satanic panic, Gary probably didn't exactly manage the company well during that, and then when sales were slow in the 90's you had the double hit of Magic taking over all the gaming tables and small book chains(Waldenbooks) going out of business, then large book chains dying to Amazon. It wasn't an easy era for tabletop gaming.

Scott Garibay is what we used to call back in the day "mentally retarded" (air quotes), and should not be taken seriously. In fact, he should be shunned, admonished, and out and out told to "shut he fuck up you retard"
Wait, I apologize...
Calling Scott Garibay "retarded" is an insult to retarded people, and again, I apologize for my verbiage.
He's simply an asshole...
Carry on...

What I've heard wasn't that she hated gamers per se, but she refused to allow for playtesting on later products (which resulted in some very questionable balance decisions). She also heavily overemphasized trying to push the Buck Rogers IP (which she had a stake in) over, well, everything else.

Per Jim Ward at a bar when he had been drinking a bit, she apparently HATED Gygax with a passion, but also ran TSR like a normal corporation, which is to say poorly. There were some questionable decisions made to irritate Gary. Further, she didn't really understand the gaming industry or gamers; I think she would have fit right in at Hasbro. But again, this is from a drunk Jim Ward (and his first hand knowledge), which could arguably be better or worse than third-hand accounts depending on who you ask due to his personal beef with her.

OK, so both those seems to confirm that the "hated gamers" thing is a false rumor.
I don't have any personal inside scoop on this, but from accounts that I have read, at the time of her takeover, TSR was in a huge amount of debt and sales had tanked. RPGs in general shrank during the 1980s, after the early peak of popularity around 1980. Williams was a business person, and she kept the company together for 12 years in a more difficult market than in the initial D&D boom. That's longer than the company had existed prior to her tenure. My impression is that she wasn't particularly successful, but also not terrible - so yeah, like a normal company.
For product quality, I never played 2E D&D, though I enjoyed a few products from then - esp. the historical sourcebooks and Council of Wyrms. I hated the boxed text storyline modules that became common, but that was already a trend before Williams took over with Dragonlance. To be fair, I also didn't like the 1E tournament module format.
