Well, that did it, a flood of money has come in during the last couple hours, Baker is now 65 bucks away from funding.

Once again, the Pundit proves his ability to make the monkeys dance!

Zak should sign Pundit's copy of Vornheim.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

It's too bad Kevin "Sine Nomine" Crawford's isn't going to go, it sounds like one helluva adventure.

Yeah. I've already given him enough of my money this month, though, couldn't afford another five grand :)

Baker's in, the indie crowd now cannot be mocked for having an OSR guy be the only one funded. ;)

I've bought his Red Tide stuff and SWN. He is a great author. Wood love to see his module fund but it won't happen. Given he has already written the module I'm hoping he publishes it through Sine Nomine using LL rules.

Now the big question will be whether Baker will actually have the guts and the talent to write his first-ever RPG product?

See, you start with that business and you'll just goad him into making it all extra-storygamey.

You gotta say stuff like "I still have no faith he understands Vance or location-based adventures well enough to put this thing together, or understands product design well enough to make it useful at the table."

Quote from: Fiasco;565107Rappan Athuk was a well established product that was pitched to a much bigger market. They were also lucky to tap into a mutually beneficial rivalry with the Traveller 5E kickstarter. Rappan also had old schools appeal AND had some pretty good and well defined swag. Also they were on kickstarter and I'm convinced that is a considerable advantage over the more primitive (and non US) Indiegogo.

So all up, not a fair comparison.

For me the biggest lesson is that people want as much certainty as possible when it comes to crowdsource. Incentivizing them to wait till the last minute to not get burt on higher rewards that dont eventuate just means that no-one invests.

Oh and chuck in some insane too level perks for the stupid rich fanboys. Rappan Athuk had 25 backers tip in $1000 or more. One guy tipped in 10k. Crazy!

You are right RA might not be a perfect direct comparison.  But the point still stands, based on almost all successful KS/IGGs (or at least the one I have seen).  Focused vertical integration with better and better rewards that create a virtual cycle as more people back the project= win for all.

But, since Raggi likes to try new things, I could be neat to see some sort of subscription model, that would be rather innovative.  In addition, it would be novel to have it on both IGG and KS, and he could have some sort of rivalry or crossover. Something like a bi-monthly on both, but they come out in different months (thus a monthly) and if both projects get funded, then all parties get the monthly.  Get it, you fund 6 issues, but if both go over, you get 12 issues or something like that- people locked out of KS could still get the goods, and the KS would get more "casuals."  After the project, he could still sell the subscriptions prorata directly to customers.

Since he already has so many writers lined up, and there is SOME buy in on all of them, a third shot is worthwhile.  Euro printing and euro shipping is no joke though, maybe getting a USA/Mexico/Canada rate would be worth looking into for North America customers for a periodical.

If anything we are learning more about the elasticity and the behavior of the KS/IGG RPG market.  And all this talk is free publicity and mindshare for Raggi :p .

James tried the vertical integration thing with his LotFP hardcover project. Had more people funded that would have been insane value. The issue there was the price of entry was $110 for four hardcovers of the rules which many may not have wanted.

This time there is no barrier to entry but the funding is dispersed over too many projects.

Ultimately, however, how things were structured may not have made much difference. What we are seeing is the size of the LotFP market which appears to be 10-20k for any given project.

On a positive note, Kevin Green has shaken himself loose of the pack and passed 3k. I think he has an excellent chance of being funded and if that happens this will be Jim's most successful project to date. 3 fully funded modules plus bonus contributions from Rob Conley and a couple of pieces by Raggi himself for the higher contributin levels.

That's a pretty good result.!

Well, it at least keeps food on the table and product in the pipeline!  Its gonna get real cold soon up there in Finland, so he needs some vittles!

Everyone should pitch in $10 for the Kevin Green module, it is the only one that if you toss in $10 and it does NOT fund, you get the pdf for free anyway.

If they'd done that with all of them, they'd all be funded by now. :D

Haha, I doubt that given it would have required 11400 contributions!

Pundit and his embarrassing misappraisal of LotFAP remind me of an old joke.

So this polack goes to a police station with a handful of dogshit. "I wanna file a report. Look what I almost stepped in!"

Don\'t forget rule no. 2, noobs. Seriously, just don\'t post there. Those guys are nuts.

Speak your mind here without fear! They\'ll just lock the thread anyway.
