This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I used to be a regular participant at ENWorld but when I realized that I was purposefully dancing around issues due to a feeling of censorship / walking on eggshells, I made a conscious decision to stop visiting the site. Time and attention is your most precious commodity, and I'm not interested in giving either to a site run by Woke cultists.

Exactly this.  Same for me.

Similar for me, except I hung around for some time and limited my interaction to some people that I liked.  Then I noticed that every time a moderator quit and a new one was appointed, the new one was more likely to play such games than the one they replaced.

Basically, they share the agenda of rpg.net but are also more sane about how they reconcile that with keeping eyeballs.  So it is important for them to maintain a patina of reasonableness, and they work at it.  It's still allowable to go after any non-woke, but it's not open-season all the time, and the hunter has to get a permit first and use site approved weapons.  More lawful evil than chaotic evil.  :D  Don't really want to participate in either state.

Edit:  This is in contrast to board game geek where--up until quite recently--it was more of a "classical liberal mindset" unfortunately run by Stalin's "useful idiots".  You know, the ones that think that if we sing Kumbaya and sit around the fire holding hands and let everyone in, the radicals won't eventually take control.  That kind of place can run along rather well, even pleasantly, for a long time before the rot sets in.

Alot of folk feel EN is stifling and oppressive. Just not yet on the blatant levels of RPGnet

Yes. The tone is a bit different too. RPGNet is a sort of collective gulag where the mods act as camp guards. EN World feels more like a classroom where Morrus is a bullying teacher, and it's not really at the same level. And I'd be really surprised if any ENW mods turned out to be sex criminals the way RPGnet ones have, ENW doesn't have that Reek of Wrongness you get from RPGnet.

Odds are they are running covert like BGG. Its whats going on under the waves that should be concerning. You only see a fin break the water or the occasional telltale splash of blood.

Welcome!  ENWorld used to be my online home too, back when it was awesome.  Then Morrus lost an argument with some poster about gay right, threw a fit, and changed Eric's "no politics" policy to "no politics that Morrus disagrees with."  I left in disgust at that point.  This place doesn't have the volume of posts that ENworld did, but besides that it's quite good.  Hope you stick around

Yeah Rpgnet became read only (to me) recently when I realised I'd not posted for a while, posted up my own experience with a your mileage may vary type statement and logged back in later to find I'd been banned for 3 days for a personal attack. No idea who I'd attacked or in what way but that place has become a minefield. Most of the mods are so far up their own arse they are close to vanishing from existence.

I find the site itself still useful to read what ordinary posters (and some of the mods) post and for reviews and such but it's a real shame what it's turned into and drives people to places such as this and others where the wrongthink police are less (or not at all) in evidence. Here you can just post about games without fear of a mod poring through what you've written to find something to be offended by.

I get it. When you have as many posters as RPGnet and Enworld do it's mad to leave it as some kind of internet wild west saloon with bullets zinging about and someone cheerily playing a piano in the corner (with an arrow jutting from it) but you can go too far with the Policing and when you get a ban for saying so it's time to move on.
