This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

You know, theres not only Halo, but Mass Effect is specifically supposed to look like a classic science fiction movie and really you couldn't get more Traveller if you went all out to make something traveller:-

Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet.

Classic? Sorry, the gal looks like she's out of Magical Pink Tech Girl Squad 47...

Or a Power Rangerette...
Swords & Wizardry & Manga ... oh my.
(Beware. This is a Kickstarter link.)

I'm sure some anime buff will come along and enlighten us with the correct term. Also, the alien looks like he got the hots for Dennis Quaid.

Common dudes - you must remember the traveller space suits -

The mass Effect dudes have ten billion times as much money and are standing on the shoulders of giants, but they are still riping off the same stuff.

And its bioware. They made Baldurs gate. The same two guys who founded it are still running it.

If they don't know traveller I'll eat my hat.

And the mass market are going apeshit for this stuff.

Total oppertunity for traveller to be a mass effect roleplaying game.

The artistic sensibilities are differ but they're the same on a basic level - people and aliens in cool armor and blasters ready to kick ass.  I don't see any differences that would be majorly different in game mechanics.

I objected to the "couldn't get more Traveller" comment. But let's not get into that "Traveller nature" stuff. Some fans are worse than buddhists ;)

If you want to get in to 'Traveller is all about low level old men on a rusty spaceship ripping off poor people for pocket change' then I'll kick you in the nads.

I'm here for the ancient sites, battledress and psionics.

Wrong tree. My first Traveller experience was T:NE, so my associations would be a virus-ridding space-scape and people trying to survive in that.

Well, I still think the worst thing about TNE was the art - I think people would have liked it more if it had had art more like megatravellers instead of the guy with the veiny arm fetish they used.

I mean, the RC is a higher tech and larger civilisation than the US is today, and theres no reason everyone wears grungy clothing all the time (like the Matrix - we can make big ass flying ships and power armour, but clothing and washing machines are a little beyond us).

And the shattered 3rd I could be really cool - imagine the ruins of a high tech civilisation done up by those Mass Effect dudes.

Not post apocalyptic, but a boom time for exploration and adventure.
