This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Money to spend, nothing to buy

Quote from: BalbinusVery dated stuff, and it brings nothing to the party that Call of Cthulhu hasn't already brought us.

Weird, in many ways, I think that's it's what Call of Cthulhu could be (it does actually provide specific rules for things that CoC never has, such as the previously mentioned ingrained moral compass where murder is concerned). Yes, it is a bit clunky, although it's a bit clunky in almost the exact same way that BRP is -- that said, the central die mechanic in PM is a bit much (they should have just gone with a d100 roll).

Quote from: MolotovThe current developers of the old Quest Worlds project (which I used to lead) are going to be releasing their efforts as "Other Worlds".  It should be sufficiently different from HQ to justify purchase, I think.  Of course, having seen both their writing and pulled them together as a team of course I'd say that.  ;)  I am quite looking forward to seeing it.
Current...old...going to release...now I'm thoroughly confused.

So, the new book by Robin Laws is going to be called...what?

And then Other Worlds will be what, content-wise?

Ah, ok, I see where the confusion is.

Robin Laws is working on the new HQ.  I thought that Moon Design dropped the "Quest Worlds" name (which zomben and I had pitched to Issaries way back at the start), but could be mistaken.

The designers who were working on Quest Worlds prior to MDP's announcement about Robin Laws have opted to press on with their own work, entitled "Other Worlds". Mike Holmes had announced it at story-games.

Sorry for the confusion!

Ah, got it. (Thanks, "von Stoffe".)

From molad.org, I see that HQ will be the corebook by Laws, while Questworlds will refer to the genre/setting materials.

As for Other Worlds, it also bears watching...can't say I'm thrilled with the name, though. "Different Worlds" would be better, but it's taken.

Can't argue with that, I always felt that the D200 thing was just an attempt to be different from CoC for the sake of being different.  I'm sure they were changing it for the new edition... I wonder what ever happened to that... I'll have to drop them a line and see what they're up to!

Not much out there that I'm really interested in getting right now.

Perhaps some L5R third edition sourcebooks, and possibly the Shadowrun Emergence supplement.

I've been buying a lot of HARP and Rolemaster stuff lately. I just picked up the new Star Wars. Other than that I don't have a thing.....oh, maybe the new Changeling.
Running: HarnMaster, and prepping for Werewolf 5.

I keep eyeing that Rolemaster 2e limited edition hardcover. $150, though? That seems a bit steep. Hmm. . .
