Can someone recommend the best company for miniatures - specificially for roleplaying - and especially for a Warhammer 1st Edition feel.
Although I've recently fallen in love with GW again (really liking their End of Times stuff), they no longer do the minis they used to. They offer great minis for the beasties - but I'm after simple folk and characters.
Is there another company that offers 'realistic' minis - no giant weaponary etc - and preferably within the UK to avoid shipping. Also would prefer to paint so no pre-painted ones.

I know that Travelling Man (http://www.travellingman.com/index.html) stocks Hordes miniatures and D&D miniatures and various others. Might be worth checking out.
Obviously in London there's Leisure Games, Orc's Nest and others. Can't tell you what miniatures they stock though.

Thanks, though more looking for a company behind the minis - rather than a stockist (of which I know). I quite like Reaper minis - but they don't have slotted bases as far as I can tell. Then there are these (http://otherworldminiatures.co.uk/) too (Otherworld minis).
I'm sure there is a minis company set up by ex-GW/Citadel employees that made figures like of old?

Tercio Creativo has some minis that might be just what you're looking for. There's a bit about them there. And for barbarians the Russian Alternative (http://miniatures-spotlight.blogspot.com/2014/06/the-russian-alternative.html) has some sweeeeet figures. And there's gunfighter halflings (http://miniatures-spotlight.blogspot.com/2014/06/skydrive-miniatures-catalog.html)! SERIOUSLY!
http://www.freebooterminiatures.de has some nice Old World feel models but also stuff you could use in Lustria. A bit on the expensive side IMO; I know Waylans stocks them.

Otherworld minis are awesome. You CAN get reaper minis with slotted bases. Their WARLORD line is made with slotted bases. There are some cool human, elf, and dwarf minis in that line.
For cost though, you can't beat the Bones. The material is so easy to work with that clipping off the bases and putting them on your own is easy.They are much lighter to store and lug around to games too.
Did I mention they are cheap? :)

Check out Mordheim figs by GW/Citadel on eBay UK. They are absolutely awesome for RPG PCs. You can score great prices on them in bulk.
Also, consider looking for GW/Citadel figs from the early days of Warhammer too. Anything from Warhammer Quest is going to be overly costly, but early GW figs can be snagged off eBay UK easily.
Lead Adventure http://www.lead-adventure.com/ makes some of my favorite 'citizen' miniatures... their Bruegelburg line of townfolk is great... tons of character.
Wargames Foundry http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/ have had a recent overhaul and have started re-releasing some of their older lines which were once under GW.
Both of those are UK based.
Reaper DOES have slotta-based miniatures under their Warlord line.
Their Bones line is cheap but I'm not a fan... too soft and rubbery for my taste.
