This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Estar, in another thread you made mention of making a new Majestic Wilderlands.  It was said that it would be for S&W and a standalone game.  Does this mean it will be an all in one book- Majestic Wilderlands and rules?  What rules are you using as a starting point?  Is any of the Majestic Wilderlands changing from the earlier book?  Thy works are solid.

Thanks!

Nattsurf

This was helpful both in listing what you felt I did right and what I did wrong. Which makes this the best kind of review.

I am doing this because after a couple of years of promoting my stuff is that the outside of the internet is not easy to get any of the retro-clone at specific game store. It hard to sell to a store what is a supplement without having Swords & Wizardry in the store. I am well aware of how many retro-clones are out there. Another thing is that I amassed more material since I wrote the original Majestic Wilderlands supplement.

My plan is to borrow a page from Hargrave's Arduin Grimoire release a multi-volume series of supplement that when combined form a complete rule set. This recognizes that the default behavior of most referee, especially with classic D&D, is to kitbash what they like into the rules they use for the campaign. There is a foundation of course, some base set of rules on which everything is built on. But given inches that separate most editions of classic D&D this is not a big deal.

By releasing multiple volume, people can buy the parts that interests them which is where I expect most of my sales to be. And there is a complete set of rules for me to sell as well for people to buy if they like my take that much. I am aware of the downside of splitting things into multiple supplement. But I believe I can organize them so people feel they are getting value with each one separately. And I can produce them for a retail price of $12 to $15 dollars.

My tentative plan is to produce the following

The Red Scroll of War (Fighters & Combat)
The Lost Grimoire of Magic (Magic Users & the Arcane)
The Chromatic Tome of the Heavens (Clerics & the Divine)
The Shadow Charter of the Brotherhood (Rogues & Urban Life)
The Roll of the Mundane, Strange, and Arcane (Equipment, Treasure, and Magic Items)
The Legendarium of the Fantastic (Monsters)
The Domesday Book (NPCs i.e. a monster manual of NPCs)

The Lost Grimoire will be first hopefully done by the fall. The core rules are done and been played in parts and as whole. Each book will have rules but more important have locales, Majestic Wilderlands details, and small adventures included. Much like what in my current supplement but focused at the local level. Of course what I write about will reflect the theme of the book. And there will be brief commentary and explanations of why I do the things I do so you can better decide whether it is right for your game.

For example in the Lost Grimoire I will writing about these locales

Guild of Arcane Lore (City-State)
Damoraxes Workshop (Gormmah)
Circle of Meath (Werewood)
Circle of the Fountain (Loshain)
Raven’s Hall (Croy)
Hammer’s Forge (Thunderhold)
Brotherhood of Malnar’s Flame (Viridistan)

Writing these  is where I am currently spending my time on this project. Right now I have some commercial maps to get done.

Are you still going to be doing this through Lulu and Drivethrurpg, or looking at other publishing options?  Estar, please keep us up to date on this.

Currently working on the generation of NPC Gear. Unfortunately Pathfinder method is too "rich" for how I did by hand so I am working through it to come up with something more in lines of how I would do it. I had to do something similar for treasure. As Swords & Wizardry method was too stingy for my taste.

Here is a link the inspiration pad pro file that is the final version of my random treasure.

As a general comment I highly recommend RPG designer to code up selected random tables for IPP and run it a 1000 times to see if the results are what you expected.

Also I created randomized generation of memorized spells based on my assessment on how likely a character will memorize a spell.

As an early adaptor of the print version to Majestic Wilderlands, I would love to do artwork for the new edition. You interested, estar?
