This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Mini-six 2nd edition coming this year

So "Bear the Forever DM" had a livestream with two RPG writers, including one of the two writers for Mini-Six Bare Bones Edition.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=f8QxcBxAOUE&t=3787s

The writer, Ray Nolan, said he thinks his 2nd edition will be ready sometime this year. Mainly the new version will add GM advice, and multiple variants of magic systems.  This includes possibly using a somewhat famous system called Mini-six Simpler Magic System that a fan created for his own game as house rules.

I won't link to that simple magic thread.  It's on RPG.Net, and I am not a fan of that site's left wing only stance on everything, and disrespect of free speech rights.

For me I was contemplating writing my own supplement book of magic systems to fix Mini-six issues I have, but I guess I don't have to now?
I'm glad for you if you like the top selling game of the genre.  Me, I like the road less travelled, and will be the player asking we try a game you've never heard of.

Good news. I always liked Mini-Six, and OpenD6 in general is looking increasingly attractive in light of what WotC may or may not be doing to the OGL.

I made up a single-page distillation to slip into my hardcopy some years back.

Sounds interesting, but I have a bunch of 1e Mini Six prints I bought when they were £2 each. Still will give this a look for ideas I'm sure.

Yeah, but I was under the impression that D6 was released under the OGL, even though it didn't use anything from the 3.x SRD, sorta like Mongoose Traveller

Yeah, I realized that while reading on another forum.

Damn it.

The OGL's tentacles are long and many, and sometimes almost invisible. But, like a jellyfish, they still sting.

So I just saw in a twitter screenshot that the D6 system is OGL but OpenD6 is Creative Commons... what the heck is this arcane distinction, is it true, and does it make OpenD6 irrevocably and perpetually safe?

weirdguy564

Well.....shit.

I didn't even realize it was OGL material, but sure as taxes and rain, the last page is the OGL license.

Now, to divorce yourself from the OGL should be pretty easy here.  The game isn't even based on any D&D material.  Its a totally different game.

Why there is an OGL statement on the last page is beyond me.  That's just weird.

There are a bunch of games based on Mini Six, I think I bought all of them! Mini Six was intended to be an open game system others could use, and the OGL was a good way to do that.

Vile Traveller

Mini Six just needs to switch to a different licence, like one of the CCs. And make sure there's no legacy text from any D&D SRDs in there.

I think you will be fine with it as is wrt ogl and D6/mini-six. I've at times considered making a campaign setting for D6 fantasy with all custom rules options I can contrive...what gives me pause is that people might like it and then my favorite game will attract danger hair retards and anger me.

Shipyard Locked

The writer of Mini-six posted this on his site yesterday and I want to spread it around because he asks a very important question - who owns OpenD6 right now?

http://www.antipaladingames.com/2023/01/who-owns-opend6.html

Slipshot762

As far as D6 adventure/space/fantasy i'm gonna say no one owns it, as it is all 100% rules/mechanics and no setting or flavor, in fact these are as neutral and generic as can be. The "openD6" logo or the "D6 system" logo would be effectively all they own if mechanics cannot be copyrighted.

Also it is my religion, D6 Fantasy, I am the founder and high priest of this religion, and my activities are 1st amendment protected. fight me you sidewalk sissies.
