Question for a low-tech Cyberpunk setting I'm writing:
What is the Japanese word for megalopolis or megacity?
Thanks in advance!
There is no equivalent 'word' in Japanese, so they Nipponized it:
The 'correct' word is Megalopolis: メガロポリス or Megaroporisu
I had someone pass me two words they thought would fit:
大都会 / Daitokai
大都市 / Daitoshi
Both mean "big city", but I'm wondering if they have the connotations of "massive, huge city" I'm looking for.

Sadly no. Remember, they had to build small, because of the size of the land they have.

Thanks for the help! : )
Thinking along the lines of Arcology, the translation of City-House or Tall-City might be useful.

One more thing, a lot of the older cities/towns of Japan are now actually districts of Tokyo. Roppongi, Shibuya and the rest, all small towns.

I was going to suggest that as a joke, but there we are!
In the 80s anime series about people living in a city within a spaceship, and not knowing it is a spaceship, they used "Megazone" (メガゾーン). There probably is a Japanese version of what you want, but probably even Japanese people would not recognize it. Kind of like how the normal person or a TV program would say "virtual reality" (phoneticized into Japanese syllables) but the scholarly journals use "jinkohgenjitsukan".
