This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Anthropomorphic action: is there a better game?

I've been trying to find a decent game to run adventures for anthropomorphic characters for my daughter (who is into a few books with the concept.)

And of those games I know of (and in this case, own), I can't think of a more complete solution than Palladium's TMNT.

Is there a better game I'm missing?
The Secret Volcano Base: my intermittently updated RPG blog.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

TMNT was one of the greatest games of all time. There is nothing better for anthropomrphics. :D

Nothing that's unqualified better, per se.  What are the other games that you have?

The ones that spring to mind for me -- besides the excellent TMNT -- are Albedo, Furry Pirates, Ironclaw, Jadeclaw, Other Suns, and Usagi Yojimbo.  Depending on how old your daughter is, a simpler system than TMNT might be easier.  Usagi Yojimbo uses the "Instant Fuzion" variant which is pretty simple, for example.

Hi John!

The Usagi Yojimbo license was bought by Sanguine, and it now uses the *Claw engine. I agree about the old UY, but not the new.

I'll second flyingmice.  I own Ironclaw, and the system is kinda complex, depending on the age of your daughter.

I was always fond of Justifiers myself but its a straight classic percentile and such system.

Jadeclaw is a bit smoother from what I hear for action but the system is a tad crunchy.

I might suggest BESM2E and Uresia as a setting (since it has all the fantasy stuff including various animal peoples.)

I also know some people doing anthro templates (based on Justifiers)for Savage Worlds--and that's very actiony (but a bit too combet centric in some ways)

The only one I am familiar with of those is Albedo, and it seems a bit setting specific.

Well, not that TMNT isn't, with all the martial-artsy stuff. But what it does have is a pretty nice menu of animals of the sort that young people delight in browsing through. BESM 2e, aforementioned, would not do for these purposes as it lacks such a menu.

Well, the old Usagi Yojimbo game had 11 animal species (i.e. rabbits, badgers, etc.) outlined as races.  It's set in 17th Japan re-imagined as a land of anthropomorphic animals, based on a set of comic books about a rabbit samurai. They're fairly traditional samurai stories done with animals.  I don't know about the new version which clash mentioned.

I'm not a Fuzion fan at all, but Instant Fuzion is a good bit simpler than either TMNT or Ironclaw.  So if you can find the old Usagi Yojimbo game -- ideally along with a bunch of the Usagi Yojimbo comics -- then that might be a good choice for a young player (specifically if bio-energy points buying and so forth is a bit much for her).  Also depends a bit on how she feels about modern-day martial arts versus samurai stories.

I have scans of Ironclaw and Jadeclaw.  They, too, have the menu of animal choices and neat illustrations, but the system does seem remarkably intricate for such an otherwise kid-friendly game.
