Next generation of table top?
So I've been floating around asking questions and working on stuff, trying to figure out how to best get something new into table top. This is what I have so far:

Table top rules...

A 1d10 system that focuses on fast play, heavy customization and personalization. Skills and special abilities dictate character instead of class, and an experience system that only rewards what players use.

The other thing of note is that players can level things up in game, without skipping a beat. Customizing skills and abilities is part of the game, and finally a way to keep GM's from forcing unnecessary rolls on the players.

Setting...

The first setting takes place in the 2020's, focusing on a corporate takeover of world powers and nations. As the "big three" corporations gain power, they leverage their monopoly to build a city of the future, "Neoteric Uruk". In the city, one of the corporations in particular is conducting research and experimenting in the metaphysical. This leads to strange occurrences within the population, which is already at odds with the corps.

The setting blends modern technology with a touch of mysticism, all the while forcing players to choose between two very clear "sides", or ride the middle as double or triple agents. The city has been developed in 3D, with the hopes of getting an old school Waterdeep (2nd edition) feel. I loved the idea of a city so big your character could be born and die there, with plenty of adventure opportunities. This thing is to scale and roughly the size of Manhattan.

So that might be a little too short an explanation, but it gets the point across I hope. So I was thinking what I could do to get people involved in this. I love the rules and setting, but they are my babies. Then I got to thinking what I could do to be different as an RPG as a whole?

Delivery...

So my idea is this: people still want books, but the internet offers a wide variety of content delivery options. So you need the .PDF and book for people that want it, but what about the extra layer of the internet? My idea is to put the rules and setting online also, but in a way that makes sense and easy to approach (I've seen other try this, but fall short on the last part). So I designed the game with internet in mind first, since it is harder to develop for, and books second.
This gives you a place online to view the rules and content, with the option of buying the books for support. All the info is easy to understand, with sections clearly outlined and navigation is obvious. Plus the added layer of being able to present more info in smaller places!

Network...

The big "kicker" which ties all of this together? The game has its own Facebook style social network! You can set up an account that gives you access to:

Friends: manage friends, send messages and update your activity stream!

Groups: create groups that can be public or private, containing a front page describing your group. You can customize your group with its own forum, wiki and activity stream!

Chat: the site has its own chat room so you can talk to people real time!

Points: everything you do earns you points from making friends to status updates. You can donate points to help friends raise their rank, or use them in site lotteries!
There are a few more things to get into, but I think you get the point :). The big deal I think is when you tie it all together. Since the developers (me), and users (maybe you) are all interacting in the same space, we could do things that would otherwise be impossible. Here are some ideas I had:

Community discussions about the rules and site, being able to gather opinions on what everyone likes as we move forward.

A "choose your own adventure" style vote at the end of every scenario update, allowing the community to steer the course of the world!

Using points to canonize characters in the official setting! This could also be opened up to added your own corps, equipment and sites on the map!

I have a good deal of this worked out, but I want to see what everyone thinks of the idea before I start throwing URL's around. That and this project is very close to me, so I would rather answer a few questions first, at the very least to let you know I'm a real guy, and not just spamming this thing all over the place. I'm excited as hell about this, and hopefully you are too! Thanks for reading this and I look forward to answering your questions!

I am going to take this post at face value and say that I love your enthusiasm for the project.  I wish you the best of success!  Seriously.

I am not sure if you're aware of it, but there are many d10 game systems currently in print and out of print.  Also, the base setting concept has been done many times as well with various role-playing games.  Lastly, there are many social network systems already established that are similar to what you described.  I would suggest doing some searches in the RPG online gaming community to find out which social network systems would be closest to what you are looking for and then either adapt or develop from that base point.

What is special about your 1d10 game system that would qualify it as the go to system for the 'next generation of tabletop gaming?'

What is special about your setting that sets it apart from the plethora of mega-corporation futuristic games already published?

Absolutely right! I have been playing/running for about twenty years, so I know what you are talking about. In fact you can see just a hair of R. Talsorian in my game design.

The only point here I would debate is I think my site is doing something different in the presentation department. Everything fits together a lot smoother, and navigation is a lot easier, at least compared to other sites I saw.

I got two things for ya!

Rules! These rules have been hammered down to avoid any unnecessary "junk rolling". Task resolution is simple, but there are multiple avenues for getting things done, all with very clear goals. The system is built from the ground up to keep characters interesting, from the way experience works to the "tuning" system, which allows you to fine tune your specializations so no two gun slingers are ever alike! This "tuning" principle has been taken to every other part of the game as well, giving you the power to tune things like magic, weapons and abilities.  

Community. I see a lot of companies trying to fit it into their business models after the fact (and really, some of them are doing it really well). I am aiming to do that differently (not the well part). Voting on story direction and open conversation between the developer are just two examples. I know others are starting to do this or something similar, I just plan on starting out with it, and keeping it more core to the process.

I think my premise is interesting and original, and the way I'm melding technology with mysticism is definitely a new spin on things.  The interaction between "angel", "demon" and human within the "augmented reality" of the game will add extra flair to the setting as well.

But I think the whole thing really breaks away in the backdrop. I (and an architect friend of mine) have been putting tons of work into designing the main city to be as self sustaining as possible, both in functionality and just plain fun! The city looks sweet, has more room than you can shake a stick at (including modern and ancient dungeon areas!) and has a deep and interesting history!

Ultimately I think if you look at anything long enough, you can see it's roots. People will find a way to call you a rip off of something if they want to bad enough. But I think I really have started to build something fun here! Anyways, if you (or anyone reading) want to check it out, let me know here and I will post the link to the site! OK, cool. :)

It seems that you are aware of how the OP sounds very similar to other games already produced.  The Internet is a weird place and new people literally just walk in off the street with no knowledge of wealth of information already contained therein.  

I would be very interested to read about your 'Tuning' mechanism and how it can improve a d10 game system.

I didn't see a link to a website in the OP, but you one in your second post.  Do you have a website up yet?  If so, link please. :)

I think that building a community is key for success these days, and fan collaboration can yield go results.  Although, it can be a slippery slope so be careful about it.

I have no problem with building something that is similar or based-off other work as long as it's good and original and it diverges from its starting point.

Is your setting a cyberpunk genre, or something different?  If it's different, how so?

It's a combination of things, but I'll give you the quick version:

Division takes place in Neo(teric) Uruk, Rize corporations first A.R.M. (Augmented Reality Metropolis). Neo Uruk is a two tier, fully enclosed facility half the size of Manhattan, located in what was Brazil. Rize has taken great strides to allow other corporations their spot in the city of the future, which has only backfired into corporate infighting.

But the rebel group Anon knows something even darker is up. Hard wiring a population already stripped of it's liberties due to the fall of world governments with "augmented reality" implants is just overkill.

The Anons have uncovered documents and videos proving the Rize CEO has been using Neo Uruk as a staging facility for neural experimentation. Employees are institutionalized by the truck full, having experienced everything from odd visions of "angels" and "demons", to even seeing celestial lights coming from the archaeology division, where Rize has amassed ancient artifacts from around the world.

In the midst of all this, Sickle corp. security forces have their hands full tracking down gangs in Neo Uruk, who's sole purpose is "gilding" the supposedly winged citizens of the A.R.M.

With all of this going on, you have a decision to make: Climb the corporate ladder, or fight for your freedom?

Sounds somewhat similar to a project I've got going on, I think a lot of minds are going in the same direction to be honest. Which is great, because if the industry can settle on a value-added optional subscription model, hey, we'll all have money again. :D
