This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Thanks for reminding me everything can be correct at least twice a day.  Like BT and a clock. Seriously? :D

Oh, the swarm shit was another great one to watch immersion destroyed at the description of powers. The weeping and wailing of 4vengers was icing on the cake.

(Honestly though, it was just crappy writing by WotC freelancers who had no clue about the game.)

Yeah I remember that crap. I gave my books away after that even though I loved the Swordmage.

B.T.

To get back to the gaytest, I've noticed a trend: people who play 5e like an old-school game have fun with it while those who play it like a new-school game do not.  Basically, if you treat the playtest as a series of discrete encounters that the players approach, engage, and overcome in the way you might a minis wargame, it's going to suck.  If, on the other hand, you treat the dungeons as a living environment within the game world and engage it with creativity (not your 2[W] + Strength power), you're going to have a lot of fun.
Quote from: Black Vulmea;530561Y\'know, I\'ve learned something from this thread. Both B.T. and Koltar are idiots, but whereas B.T. possesses a malign intelligence, Koltar is just a drooling fuckwit.

So, that\'s something, I guess.

I have 3 half brothers and a few foster brothers so one more would be cool.  I am a good sister really. My brothers did introduce me to the hobby so they aren't that bad unless you mistreat me.:p

You keep on using that word.

I do not think it means what you think it means.

I have been busy for a few days and have no wish to read this entire thread.

From what I have scanned there is an obvious issue round magic. It's something I flagged in the D&D Next wizard thread.
Either magic is a game effect or it's a physics effect. If a fireball is a game effect that does Xd6 damage to y targets within z feet of each other then fine. It won't be able to burn off poison from hidden darts, melt ice or whatever it will be a disasociated effect.
If Magic is a physics effect then a fireball can do loads of things and that is where the discussion lies. The Player might argue that the heat from a fireball will evaporate the liquid in a potion bottle, or burn up a scroll or lots of other things. Things you could never encapculate in a rule book because each effect would have 4 pages of rules.

It is at this level that the automatic never misses Magic missile becomes an issue, for example. If I can hit something 100' away unearingly I can put out a candle, extinguish a torch, Hey why can't I target the wizard's staff to cause him to make a save or drop it, etc etc.

I think this is a very basic split in RPGs and its the very clear difference between 1e and 4e. It touchs everything from HP through to combat styles and magic to skills and 'feats'. Where on the continum from Physics engine to game do you want to draw that line.

Like I say I have been busy so I haven't yet had a chance to download the playtest, hoping to do it tonight, the question is on this crucial topic where does DNDN sit.
