This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Benoist;542671I sure will keep on enjoying D&D, thanks for the advice. In the meantime, I encourage you to go buy a copy of the Dying Earth RPG (in PDF here, or Print there), so you can actually enjoy an emulation of Jack Vance's world in RPG form that already exists. And there! You can enjoy your game, I can enjoy mine. No need to change D&D into a shit game. Ain't that beautiful?
So I get my Vancian game, and you get your game which you call Vancian although it is not.

(I already have a copy, but thank you for the link.)

Quote from: Sacrosanct;542672He can't, because even he is starting to get warnings from the mods.
Pfft, that's not the first time. Kai Tave is a good mod, and his point is fair. By the way, for a group claiming not to care about other forums, a lot of you are some gossipy girls.
Quote from: CRKrueger;542670Hmm, Dr. Strange never stopped to re-memorize a spell, neither did any anime character I have seen (maybe in Lodoss War somewhere).
Eh. So you have to cast Magic Mansion after a few dozen other spells.
QuoteWhat happened, Jack, did your few posts from a couple weeks back where you were making sense get you in trouble with the boys at SA, so now you have to come here and troll like a useless cunt again?
If it had, it would be easy for you to find out, since it's a publicly viewable forum. Mainly I was in the mood to check out how different communities are receiving the 5e playtest. It's been pretty predictable so far.
Quote from: DestroyYouAlot;542675You gotta go a step further:  HJ's contributions here and on little purple amount to nothing more than something to run back to SA with HUUUUUURRRRR, I TROLLED DA GROGS, DID YOU GUYS SEE?!?  He's a lapdog, they toss him treats and pat him on the head over there.
SA's TG forum doesn't pay much attention to RPGsite anymore. The tone of discussion is too outright paranoid, and devolves too quickly, to even get much mileage out of mocking it. In fact I rarely repost things from here to grognards.txt. Last time I did, I didn't know I'd caused a few of you to have meltdowns over it until other SA posters informed me, which got a good laugh. The only thing I remember about it was that somebody called me "Halabaloney Liar" which is a totally sick burn because it's kinda-sorta-but-not-really like my username.

I don't think anybody trolls forums to get responses they can post in grognards.txt, because what you get from doing that is line-by-line rebuttals (multiquote, etc.) that aren't easy or interesting for anyone else to reread. The best grogswallop comes from blogs, OPs containing long ranting manifestos, or voluminous angry replies within the context of forum threads.

But Wizards are WIZARDS, we don't use magic we are MAGIC.  The power of the cosmos run through our veins and all the mundane should LOOK UPON US AND DESPAIR!

Do you have links

Halloween Jack

I haven't even had time to read any of grognards.txt itself since Friday morning. I must be a dozen pages behind. I'm sure stuff from here will get quoted, but the idea that people are going to come troll you to elicit responses isn't borne out by reality. Then again, neither are things like vast conspiracies of "storygamers" trying to conquer the hobby in the name of communism, or sucklike.

And almost every other page or so.

Keep in mind, whenever anyone here mentions grognards.txt, there are multiple WE DON'T PAY ANY ATTENTION TO YOU GUYS posts over there.  Which seems... odd.  And just dripping with irony.

People trolling forums to get responses seems much more realistic than an elaborate storygame conspiracy. That is kind of the point of trolling. To provoke posters into a reaction. I for one have never suggested a conspiracy of story gamers, and certainly never worried about communists infiltrating the hobby.

Never seen that forum before

That's why some people come here, fishing for quotes for SA guys to giggle at.

Quote from: David Johansen;542592No, the thing is that the goal of 5e is to create a lot of buzz and sell a lot of books and controversy creates buzz.  Ideally they'd like the buzz to sell books for longer than it did with 4e.  As long as the designers believe that fixing D&D is the right path they will fail to bring back the people who have left.

The core game just needs scraped off and polished a little bit it doesn't need 'fixed'.

Which core game would that be?

Quote from: Halloween Jack;542583Play a spellcaster: Read the list of spells (which comprises a quarter of the rulebook), cast spell, get the effect listed. Play a martial character: Spend 20 minutes describing exactly how you poke something with a ten-foot-pole and beg the DM not to make you roll save-or-die.

Any DM with you as a Player should have Save-or-Die always in effect.

Yeah, but who gives a fuck? You? Jibba?

Well congrats. No one else gives a shit, so your arguments are a waste of breath.

Quote from: Benoist;542604There you go. So the matter is in fact not settled, and you can expect it to pop up again. I'm going to repeat myself, but I want to make clear that I have nothing against whatever preference you might have running your own campaign. But when it comes to the design of the game itself, and particularly its baseline, it's open season. You can't pretend this comes to you as a surprise.

I understand quite clearly I can read fairly well.  It just means I disagree with you about this singular issue and reserve the right to say so whenever appropriate.
