This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Yes, issue #8 of RPGPundit Presents is already here! Geez, it feels like this started just yesterday. Anyways, this week we have something really special for you: a 15-page book, featuring three different Grimoires, all three based on REAL historical grimoires of the middle-ages, presenting interesting new abilities and challenges for the magicians who read and study them!

Check out:
The Ghayat-al-Hakim, with its planetary and stellar summonings!

The Clavicula, with its rules for summoning demons and bonding them to magical talismans! Also, rules for creating four powerful magic items.

The Theurgia, with its 36 "Spirits of the Aires", each of which can either reveal a secret, or grant a gift.

Dammit, I gotta get my butt in gear with reviews already.

My review of the Dungeon Chef got some hits, I hope it resulted in a sale or two.
You should go to GaryCon.  Period.

The rules can\'t cure stupid, and the rules can\'t cure asshole.

Since I'm not the publisher I couldn't absolutely say for sure, but I can't fathom that it wouldn't.  Reviews in general generate sales, and a review from you I'm sure would generate sales.

Is there any overlap between this and Lion and Dragon, or is this something completely separate from the magic system in that upcoming book?

It is in essence a SUPPLEMENT to Lion & Dragon. Note that NONE of the material in this product are going to be in the text of Lion & Dragon, but it is based on the same principles as how magic works IN the book. You could use it as additional stuff your magister in L&D can find, research and learn to increase their magical techniques.
It would essentially qualify as "rare additional powers" you'd only be able to obtain in play.

Several of the issues of Pundit Presents are going to essentially be supplements for L&D, though they can of course be used in any other OSR product too.

So far, this has been my only Black Friday Weekend purchase. :)

You should put these out as hard copy on drivethrurpg. I never read pdfs of games, so I never by pdfs of games.

Well, you'll need to be patient, but eventually they'll be collected into at least two different anthologies in print (and pdf): "Medieval-Authentic" and "Gonzo". (this one will be in Medieval-Authentic), obviously.

Sounds good. I imagined you might do something like that once the total page count got up to whatever their minimum threshold is for print items.

Thanks, I do. I was interested in it both for the semi-historical interest, and for inspiration and possible use in play. I like how you give a fair amount of detail but also leave a lot of room for interpretation and creativity, and how in a way that makes it more usable to more people, since the GM is clearly free (and in some cases will need to) supply or alter the details, so we can tune them to our own campaigns, and so there shouldn't be players reading it and expecting too much OOC knowledge of how they work. I think the value is mainly in the idea of these types of grimoires and the examples of the type of variety they can contain (and the types of limits they might have, such as incomplete sections and missing sigils and limits on when they can be used and ritual requirements and so on), as inspiration to make up more of the same. (GM's who only know how to use things as written might struggle and/or not get it, but they would do well to learn how to fill in details and make up their own stuff, and I imagine this might even get them to do that.)

Glad to hear it as I also prefer  hard copy.

RPGPundit

This issue has been doing quite well. So the RPGPundit Presents coming out on Tuesday will be another Grimoire book, "The Book of the Art of Hours".
