This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Guest Stars

So, today we had a session of my Roman Immortal campaign where Ramirez shows up... Ramirez being the immortal who, in the highlander movies, was played by Sean Connery.  Cue the cheap imitation, which was a blast for me to run, and my players were mostly entertained too (he'd appeared before, but always only in flashbacks).

Have you had "guest stars" show up that are based on impersonations of real-world personalities? If so, who were they, and what was their context in the fantasy world/sci fi world, etc that they were in?

Note: obviously for the sake of this thread, regular NPCs from major licenses don't really count, unless you did something very particular with them (ie. it wouldn't be too unusual if you had Luke Skywalker show up in a Star Wars campaign; but it would be worth mentioning if somehow you made Luke Skywalker more like Mark Hamill in some way).

In my high magic D&D campaign, where the players were all playing detectives in the police department of a flying wizard's school, I once ran an adventure where we had to help Santa Claus save Christmas, despite the characters not being familiar with either concept.

I don't know if that counts.

You mean like have your PCs go headhand-to-head with Cock Knocker as the BBEG?  Hrmm, I can't name anything specific off the top of my head. Although given my propensity for puns there would have to have been someone somewhere that was a anachronism.  I believe I've had and seen the occational grandson of a current celebrity show up in Shadowrun in sort of related line of work or position, but there even canon even does that.

No, I've never done this except when I was a stupid kid and didn't know any better - e.g., undead Jim Morrison in V:TM.
It's never worked out that well for my groups.

Dominus Nox

In a recent gurps traveller game ran at a convention, I used Andrew Hackard from SJG's forums as an arrogant, dictatorial Solomani Security director.

He seemed a natural for the roll.

Next convention I may use SJ himself as a space pirate who must be hunted down.

Unless you're just one of those people who loves seening their name in print...;)

As to fictional characters I like and might guest star, there's always good old Hannibal Lecter. He's an interesting fellow with some redeeming traits.

Motoko Kusanagi from "Ghost in the shell" would be interesting, but frankly such a super character the players might get lost in her shadow, or wiped out of they tried to fight her.

In my fantasy campaigns I have so far avoided temptation...

To have the PC's find a large ring like artifact.

Either amoungst some ruins in the wilderness, or forgotten in the catacombs of a large temple.

Wouldn't you know it, a part of it starts to spin and light up and before you can say "this is bullshit" this vertical pool of what looks like water appears.

Strangely garbed people then appear with funny shaped black clubs that they hold to their shoulder.

And no, the PC's can't understand a word of what they are saying. But the big black one with the gold on his forehead looks dangerous.

Ultraviolence ensues.
