Looks like the 40% off coupon for Lulu still works. I just ordered Strands of Fate last week. Any suggestions? What about Labyrinth Lord?

If you like older D&D, Labyrinth Lord should make you pretty happy. It's Basic/Expert set with Otus cover.

I recommend Fight On! magazine, which has tons of articles on older D&D, Tekumel, and some Runequest.

Hah! I would prefer Skinhead: the Booting. Who needs to kill orcs when you can bash Pakis? (this is a joke for those of you wondering...)

Assuming you have nothing against old school D&D, I highly recommend the OSRIC hardcover. It's first ed AD&D, but reorganized and rewritten. So it gives you a different approach on the same game, and allows to dispell some puzzling rules and so on. It's very well organized too. I see it as a complement, rather than a replacement, to the original game. It's a dream to run it with that thing.

I actually have the softcover version from Lulu, but thanks!

With the suplement Call of Chavthulu you can actually play a Skinhead.

The Yardiez, Pikeyz Gopnikz and Will probably gang up and kill you but its an option.

What sorts of games do you like - aside from FATE and OSR stuff? As far as  FATE goes, I recommend Diaspora highly. I don't follow the OSR - I was there when Old School was New School, and already have the T-shirt - so I can't recommend anything in that direction. The more information you give me, the better I can tune my recommendations.

I will try nearly anything. Interested in what might be the 'new hotness'. I got kind of put off Diaspora after the whole 'too cool for PDF' business.

Excellent. Since you were asking about Labyrinth Lords, I have the hardcover for that one as well, and it's great. Love the art, in particular, and well, there's a sort of straightforward simplicity to the B/X rules without getting too much into a bare bones approach like Swords & Wizardry does (translating OD&D into a modern form) that you really can't beat.

I like races as classes, and would like to do something with B/X (LL) at some point. It inspires me in a different way than AD&D does.

They weren't too cool for PDF, though it may have come off like that. It's just that the guys in VSCA - unlike me - are particularly concerned with the whole aesthetic experience of the book, and wanted it to be right. The book itself is lovely, and obviously the result of real talent meeting exacting standards. They did come out with a PDF eventually, one that met their expectations. I understand their perspective, I just don't share it. The game itself, though, is very cool!

As for the new hotness, I seldom pay any attention to such things, and wouldn't know the new hotness if it jumped up and bit me, so I have nothing to offer except my apologies!

The guys from VSCA hesitated a little about a pdf version but it wasn't related to "coolness" as far as I understand. One of their concerns was the quality of the electronic version. They also looked at other file formats IIRC in this pursuit of quality. Pdf being the standard in the hobby they went along with it once they were satisfied with the product. The pdf has been available since March of this year.

Yes. I have both print and PDF of Diaspora.

When I heard about the other holiday discount from Lulu, I gifted myself a copy of The Majestic Wilderlands penned by R Conley, known at this forum as estar.
