This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

O.R.C. campaigns for 2007

I've now sorted out which three closed-ended campaigns I'll be running this year. You can see them here.

Each campaign will be run for 12 sessions, with another 4 sessions of alternates, where the group does something else - plays a board game, watches a dvd, goes out for dinner, someone else GMs a one-off, etc. That makes a total of a 16 week campaign season.

The 2007 campaign seasons will be,

Wasteland - A GURPS game, where survivors from a Vault journey forth to explore.
January 23rd - May 8th

lofgeornost (Tiwesdæg Clíewen 3) - A RuneQuest game of high adventure.
May 15th - August 28th

underground - An Unknown Armies game of urban exploration and mystery. There is some stuff you don't want to know.
September 4th - December 18th

I'm looking for about four players for each of those. The times and order aren't etched in stone, this is just what I'm suggesting. You can sign up for any one, all or none of them. I have a few players floating around already interested, but wanted to open it up to lots of people - I know there are a few people out there who haven't gamed in quite a while. Maybe a short campaign will be just the thing to get back into it! More details about them can be found on the O.R.C. home wiki page.

There were other things I was into and thinking about, but I got no huge bouts of enthusiasm from players about anything in particular, so I thought, "screw it, I'll offer the three I want to run, and stick with 'em."

Those in Melbourne, sign up! Everyone else, tell me what you think.

May as well put 'em up here in detail...

One world dead, another unable to be born

GAME STYLE
Cinematic (1 part) vs Realistic (3 parts). The idea is to have a bit of a "gritty" feel to it... it's after an apocalypse, after all.
Hack (2 parts) vs Thesp (2 parts). This really depends on the approach of the players. There'll be some fighting (every few sessions) no matter what you do, but of course PCs can be good at starting more ;) But in general it's expected that who you are's more important than the size of your gun.
Schtick (1 part) vs Drama (3 parts). The game'd have a more or less serious tone, but we are Aussies, so we'll take the piss a bit.

WHAT HAPPENS
Action & Fights (2) - frequency depends on player choices
Building (2) - the overall themes are "what kind of world do you rebuild?" Your actions will influence that even if you're not aiming that way.
Character (4)
Character Power (1) - there'd be not much character advancement. Of course you can kill things and take their stuff, but you'll only slowly get better at killing things and taking their stuff.
Destroying (2) - you may just bring down a whole country, or what passes for a country in the postapocalyptic world.
Exploration (3) - much of the world will be a mystery to you.

HOW IT'S DONE
Athletics, Combat, Communication, Intrusion, Persuading, Wilderness

Detailed description
The Sun, apparently middle-aged, suffered a hot flash. Cities and nations burned, crops failed in drought, and soot blackened the sky. First fire, then darkness, and in the darkness humanity perished. The sea levels rose, and cities were flooded. Disease stalked the land. All electronics were lost to the Flare. Twelve years have passed, and humanity is slowly building new civilisations, but each group has its own way of organising itself, and not all of them look well on us.

The heroes of the story will be ordinary people, frozen in a hyposleep experiment about the turn of the century, and revived to venture forth into the world beyond the bunker and retrieve equipment for it. What sort of societies will they find? What sort of societies will they make? One world is dead, and another is unable to be born.

most eager for honour
adventuring in a world where magic is magical, and monsters are monstrous

GAME STYLE
Cinematic (2 parts), Realistic (2 parts) – there shall be magic, a source of wonder and awe
Hack (2 parts), Thesp (2 parts) – the characters are real people, with real feelings and thoughts, but sometimes they are pretty shallow, and just chop.
Schtick (1 part), Drama (3 parts)

WHAT HAPPENS
Action / Fights (3) – heroes do things, they don't just talk about them!
Building (1) – how can mere adventurers change the fate of a kingdom?
Character (3) - real people, again
Character Power (2) – you strive for glory and honour!
Destroying (1)
Exploration (3) – the Cyning sends you forth.

HOW IT'S DONE
Athletics, Combat, Magic, Persuading, Scholarship, Wilderness

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Years ago Cyning Berchtwald rose from being a mere fishmonger to Cyning of all Eron (Tiwesdæg Clíewen). After putting down the last rebellious Eorl, and subduing the savages of the mountain clans (Tiwesdæg Clíewen 2), now he would have his lands know more of the world, and trade with them. He would also have his bastard son find some place of honour, but he must needs earn it by his deeds. And so he sends forth a party to the mainland, to explore and send back reports, and seeks those who are lofgeornost, most eager for glory, as was Beowulf.

there is some shit you don't want to know

An Unknown Armies game for four players. Think X-Files and Twilight Zone, with a dose of Sopranos.

GAME STYLE
Cinematic (2 parts), Realistic (2 parts) – you're real as people, but the things you encounter will sometimes be unreal.
Hack (1 part), Thesp (3 parts) – power has consequences. You can beat a guy to death with a spanner and steel-capped boots, but that shit is going to stay with you.
Schtick (1 part), Drama (3 parts) – the world's a scary place.

WHAT HAPPENS
Action & Fights (3) – there's a time and place for fighting, and a time and place for running like fuck.
Building (1) – this ain't SimCity.
Character (4) – It's not who you are inside, but what you do that defines you.
Character Power (1) – XP is for wusses. You want to get better? Practice.
Destroying (2) – it might turn out there's a grand conspiracy. Who's gonna believe you? Not the cops, that's for sure. So who's gonna take it down? Gotta be you.
Exploration (4) – it's all about exploring places, and you.

HOW IT'S DONE
Athletics, Combat, Intrusion, Magic, Scholarship

Detailed Description
You're curious, always have been. You like to go places you're not supposed to. You call it "urban exploration." Drains, steam tunnels, abandoned asylums, old missile silos – you love that shit. There's something you're looking for, you don't know what. You've got an obsession. Problem is, so does someone else. Or so you've heard. Sometimes you're not the only ones in those hidden and forgotten places. But you have to keep looking, you have to find things out. One day you'll find out - there is some shit you don't want to know.
