This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Humans are the only aliens.

GAME STYLE
Cinematic (1 part) vs Realistic (3 parts). Space is dangerous.
Hack (2 parts) vs Thesp (2 parts). Entirely up to the players.
Schtick (1 part) vs Drama (3 parts). The universe is a dangerous place.

WHAT HAPPENS
Action & Fights (2) - frequency depends on player choices
Building (1) – The characters are unlikely to have a lot of effect on the universe.
Character (3) – Who you are matters.
Character Power (1) – Character advancement isn't a big thing here.
Destroying (1) – As for Building.
Exploration (4) – The universe is not only dangerous, it's also big and mysterious.

HOW IT'S DONE
Combat, Communication, Driving, Gadgeteering, Magic (or Psionics), Medical, Persuading, Scholarship, Wilderness

Detailed description
The year is 2271, and humanity has reached the stars. But they took their problems with them, and the only aliens we have met are other humans.
The characters will be working semi-freelance for the Commonwealth, exploring and investigating, and ensuring there is never again a great war between the stars.

As the crew of the Imperial Survey Corps Starship HMS Reginald Saunders, you are tasked to explore new worlds, and report on colonised worlds. Based at Jerusalem Station, your first task is to visit the mining colony Runnel's End, which has not been visited for three months, and drop off some medical supplies and mail, and return with some refined ore. Report on their condition. There is no reason to expect any trouble whatsoever.

WHAT HAPPENS

Character (3) – Some guys just can't handle the pressure.

HOW IT'S DONE
Combat, Communication, Intrusion, Medical, Persuading, Wilderness

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The greatest war since WWII wages in central Africa, in what used to be called Zaire, and most of the world neither knows nor cares about it. But you care – you're paid to care. Most of the people just want to live in peace and hoe their beans – but some people want to stop them. What these people need are someone to protect them, to train them, and look after them.

The characters will be mercenaries and locals in eastern Zaire in 2001, dealing with guns, money, and a dozen different factions trying to bring order out of chaos.

The world may forget these people. You won't.

One world dead,
another unable to be born

GAME STYLE
Cinematic (1 part) vs Realistic (3 parts). The idea is to have a bit of a "gritty" feel to it... it's after an apocalypse, after all.
Hack (2 parts) vs Thesp (2 parts). This really depends on the approach of the players. There'll be some fighting (every few sessions) no matter what you do, but of course PCs can be good at starting more ;) But in general it's expected that who you are's more important than the size of your gun.
Schtick (1 part) vs Drama (3 parts). The game'd have a more or less serious tone, but we are Aussies, so we'll take the piss a bit.

WHAT HAPPENS
Action & Fights (2) - frequency depends on player choices
Building (2) - the overall themes are "what kind of world do you rebuild?" Your actions will influence that even if you're not aiming that way.
Character (4)
Character Power (1) - there'd be not much character advancement. Of course you can kill things and take their stuff, but you'll only slowly get better at killing things and taking their stuff.
Destroying (2) - you may just bring down a whole country, or what passes for a country in the postapocalyptic world.
Exploration (3) - much of the world will be a mystery to you.

HOW IT'S DONE
Athletics, Combat, Communication, Intrusion, Persuading, Wilderness

Detailed description
The Sun, apparently middle-aged, suffered a hot flash. Cities and nations burned, crops failed in drought, and soot blackened the sky. First fire, then darkness, and in the darkness humanity perished. The sea levels rose, and cities were flooded. Disease stalked the land. All electronics were lost to the Flare. Twelve years have passed, and humanity is slowly building new civilisations, but each group has its own way of organising itself, and not all of them look well on us.

The heroes of the story will be ordinary people, frozen in a hyposleep experiment about the turn of the century, and revived to venture forth into the world beyond the bunker and retrieve equipment for it. What sort of societies will they find? What sort of societies will they make? One world is dead, and another is unable to be born.

"No questions, no answers."

Professionals do the job they're hired to do. They're not supposed to ask why.

"Where there is any doubt, there is no doubt. That's the first thing they teach you."
"Who taught you that?"
"I don't remember. That's the second thing they teach you."

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
No questions, no answers. That's the business we're in. You accept it and move on.

The characters will work for Osere, a private security firm founded in France. Osere is a Marseilles-founded organisation which specialises in paramilitary and police-style operations. Operations include, but are not limited to: intensive background checks, criminal investigation, security, hostage rescue, counter-terrorism, and what the company calls, "specialised covert investigation," which is to say, espionage. Osere in no case carries out gratuitous assassinations or terrorist acts. It will carry out assassinations of military targets, or of targets for which there is significant proof they might receive the death penalty in most countries.

These missions bring the company into clashes and co-operation both with other agencies both official and unofficial.

most eager for honour

adventuring in a world where magic is magical, and monsters are monstrous

GAME STYLE
Cinematic (2 parts), Realistic (2 parts) – there shall be magic, a source of wonder and awe

Schtick (1 part), Drama (3 parts)

WHAT HAPPENS
Action / Fights (3) – heroes do things, they don't just talk about them!
Building (1) – how can mere adventurers change the fate of a kingdom?
Character (3) - real people, again
Character Power (2) – you strive for glory and honour!
Destroying (1)
Exploration (3) – the Cyning sends you forth.

HOW IT'S DONE
Athletics, Combat, Magic, Persuading, Scholarship, Wilderness

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Years ago Cyning Berchtwald rose from being a mere fishmonger to Cyning of all Eron. After putting down the last rebellious Eorl, now he would have his lands know more of the world, and trade with them. He would also have his bastard son find some place of honour, but he must needs earn it by his deeds. And so he sends forth a party to the mainland, to explore and send back reports, and seeks those who are lofgeornost, most eager for glory, as was Beowulf.

Okay, that's it for now. ;) I use the prospectus to pitch games to about 20 different players. Then, going on what people chose, and given the combinations of players I think would work best, I choose 3-6 players for the game I've decided to run.

This is quite cool -- I've done something similar before, but not as detailed.  I'm definitely going to be using these in the future.
