This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

[Pure Shoujo] Help w/ an Utena-inspired game.

I found this pretty simple little shoujo anime game at my friend Jpat's site. Basically, you roll up stats to find out how smart, cunning, friendly, driven, etc. your character is, then roll d12 + d6, trying to roll under the relevant stat in order to do stuff. Character vs. character involves both doing rolls and whoever rolls under the most wins. There's also a card aspect -- rolling doubles allows you to draw a card. Most cards give you a new goal to pursue with your characters(accomplishing the goal is how you get XP), and the face cards either add a new character into play or remove a character from play. For more details, you can get the full PDF of the game here.

Anyway, on to the main topic. While talking, the guys I want to run a game for mentioned being familiar with Revolutionary Girl: Utena. So I thought that was a great idea for using this system since most of its stats are pretty social in nature. Not Utena itself, of course, but a setting somewhat based on the series(I would hope that whatever I come up with makes more sense at least . . .). Stuff like an independent student council, a magical macguffin(which may or may not be a person), a reason for the students to regularly duel, stuff like that.

I'm also thinking about any changes I might need to make to the Pure Shoujo system. Perhaps new goals to replace the relationship-based ones most of the cards stand for right now. They're kind of generic, and I think something with an Utena feel to it would need more specific(and perhaps a larger number of negative) goals. And there'd need to be something to make duels interesting -- I figure the core stats can stay the same since the characters' mental and emotional states seemed to have more impact on the fight than any real fighting skill. I'd make them RP how the "attack" stat they choose is relevant to the scene at that moment, of course. Maybe have a best 3-out-of-5 thing to keep battles from being too short. And then maybe a temporary penalty for losing a duel(the attack stats you used are reduced by 1 for an episode? something that's a real loss but not devastating).

Any ideas you guys can give me would be great.
