This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Also, since I live in Mississippi, I'd love for you to check out what the Deep South is all about. It's nothing like what pop culture depictions would lead you to believe.

Next year I might be in washington state briefly. Unfortunately, I don't have any short-term plans (or long-term plans) of going to Mississippi.

Critical Miss did a great series of articles for gamers on what places were really like.

Why not start a new thread telling us about the South?

That might not be a bad idea. Let me collect my thoughts and I'll chime in later.

Speaking as someone who has never lived south of Des Moines and who has only passed through part of the South on a bus trip once, I'd be interested in reading these too.

A few years back on rpg.net there was a review of a CoC scenario set in modern day New Orleans, I think it was a fan written scenario as the published one is firmly in the 1920s.

One criticism on the forum of the scenario was that it didn't capture how the poster (from the North part of the US) pictured the city.  I remember him saying how he wanted the scenario to bring to life images of sweat stained butchers carving meat from a hanging hog while flies buzzed around it, which was how he saw the place.

Brilliantly, a poster from New Orleans responded saying "you know, mostly we just go to 7-11 or a supermarket like everyone else if we want to get something to eat".

People's images of these places often owe more to Hollywood than anything else, and Hollywood is not in the documentary business.
