This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Kevin's a good artist too.

I'm not such a fan anymore, but I used to be. The games are perfectly solid. I think his Palladium Fantasy RPG is miles, miles better than AD&D 2nd Edition.

PFRPG=still my favorite RPG.  I'm currently tweaking it (which I'm thrilled I've been so comfortable doing), but love it all the same.  The takes on races, the different magic systems, the tone it's written in--awesome, awesome stuff.  That's an RPG that's meant for cheetoes and cool dice and kitchen tables and late night, Mountain Dew-fueled epics.

I'm not much of a fan anymore either but I was a big one back in the late 80's-early 90's; I never had as much fun generating characters than with  Heros Unlimited.  Amazingly enough, I hit my Palladium Sux phase right when Rifts came out.

Now outside of a wistful, nostalgic fondness, I don't have strong feelings one way or the other.  I don't follow the company nor do I know much of its (and Kevin's) shennanigans.  But folks still like playing the games and I hate to see any RPG company go under.

I will shoot my mouth off and say that outside of Mentzer's Red Box D&D and White Wolf's Vampire, I'd be hard pressed to think of another company that had a bigger impact in getting brand new gamers into the hobby.

(I'll also be snarky and say that after reading Kevin's post, I got so worked up that I ran outside and stabbed my neighbor in the neck with a pen...)

And did the neighbor get the police to put "Crisis of Neighborly Treachery©®" down in the official report?

I read that and the image of Felix Gaeta from nBSG comes to mind.  Just never knew that he was a Palladium/RIFTS  gamer.

I too hate to see any game company go under.

I played various Palladium games until the system got to me to a point where I gave up, sold everything and played other stuff.

I hope he is remembering to report the donations or he is going to have a big problem on his hands as far as taxes are concerned.

It's a shame for any small business to suffer this kind of misfortune, but the attendant hyperbole and melodrama Siembieda seems compelled to inject into every damn press release really erodes my sympathy, especially when it's surrounded by so much obfuscation.

Well what's sad is what was stolen was mostly the owners and not actual company product.

He made it sound like that was what caused the company problems, instead of the RIFTS video game that tanked and other stuff which were the real cause of the problems.

That was a genius move though, wasn't it?  "Lets bet the future of our company on a video game from an utterly unkown developer being released on a dead platform!"  Brilliant!

I'm afraid you don't really have the right of it here.  I've heard this same line via internet scuttlebutt a lot, and it's still patently untrue.  I know there's been a lot of rumors out there, and it's easy to get mixed up, but this simply isn't the case.  Yeah, a lot of personal property got stolen, but a LOT of warehouse product was taken.  Books were outright stolen, unaccounted for, not delivered, etc.  But hey, it's Palladium.  It's a topic that gets people worked up.

You take what you're given.  Palladium's involvement with the N-Gage didn't nearly sink them; it was a disappointment, yes, but hey, you take what you can get.  Here's hoping they'll find another platform and game soon.

I playtested Promise of Power before it was released, and it was a really fun game.  Pity the N-Gage didn't do better.

Again, they didn't "bet the future" of the company on a single video game release.  Yeah, it sucked, and it's a shame it didn't turn out to be a better seller.  But they hardly went in whole-hog on it.

You've seen the police report or court documents? I didn't realize they'd been released. Where can I get a copy?

You have to have at least some admiration for a guy who can (allegedly) successfully run a game with dozens of players.  Any more than 8, and I'd be tearing out my hair.

I admire his writing, too.

If other companies just had one writer this prolific and chock full of ideas, they would roll over anyone else. Because they´d have someone else doing the accounting, marketing etc.
