This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

MidGuard: The Roleplaying Game is coming to Kickstarter!

In MidGuard: The Roleplaying Game, you will be introduced to the world that combines science-fiction with Nordic mythology and play a character who is no stranger to cybernetic implants, but can also be an adept of the mystical art of hexeri.

Now you can create your own, futuristic saga, where the residents of the Nine Systems constantly fight against one another. Will you have enough courage to face trolls, dragons and space krakens?

You can also connect yourself to the forbidden Yggdrasil Network to give the finger to Odin himself and prepare for the approaching final battle of Ragnarok.

It is your story. Make it epic.

MidGuard: The Roleplaying Game was first released in Poland in 2022, following a very successful crowdfunding campaign. The game is based on a custom d20 mechanic with heavy emphasis on the player's resources, allowing to modify the outcome of the check result.

Follow our pre-launch page on Kickstarter and stay tuned for the upcoming news!

Neon Skies looks like a decent new fairly lightweight cyberpunk game

Sure, there are already a few well-established TTRPG franchises in the cyberpunk genre. So...why?

First of all, the setting is not quite as gritty and grounded as you might be used to. The setting is best described as half cyberpunk, half mad-science. Engineers and sci-fi nerds will find a lot to love here.

Perhaps you feel that gameplay should rely more on mechanics than "hand-waving" cinematic story-telling, but at the same time, it's not particularly fun to simulate every bit of minutia and track handfuls of modifiers whilst dealing with a character sheet that's four pages long.

You should be able to create a character in under ten minutes, but you should do so with assurance that no one else in the world has ever or will ever create that same character again, statistically speaking.

So there's a sweet spot. There is a place where the simulation is abstracted just enough for the gameplay to be fast and fun, but without sacrificing depth, character uniqueness, and the reward that comes with using the "crunch."

That's Neon Skies. It offers up a beautiful, accessible, streamlined rules system that focuses on all the right things and trims away all the right excess.

...and the character sheet fits on one page.

Toran Ironfinder

I didn't go back and see if this was listed, but there is a new edition of the old WEG D6 system, best known for the Star War's RPG they ran for years. It's a good system, easy to learn, it's pretty easy to houserule wonkiness that arises (we got rid of the extra dice lightsaber combat did to damage, for example). It is cinematic, and a bit deadly, but that's ok, since character creation can be pretty quick (particularly if you have premade templates).

Crusader X

I usually don't like overly cartoonish art in my RPGs, but this Slay the Dragon! RPG looks so much fun.  I cut back on Kickstarters, but I'm tempted to back this one.

Trevor Devall's The Broken Empires KS is smashing through its stretch goals and has 19 days to go.  TBE is a 'sim-lite' RPG for those that like crunch but also has streamlined play.  Naval combat and a chapter on solo play are also going to appear for those that enjoy that.

Dueling Dragon Adventures, makers of the fantasy RPG setting "The Chronicles of Aeres", is doing a Kickstarter for "Titans of Fallen Earth". This is a kaiju vs. mecha RPG.

(I have no affiliation with this but have cheered "Aeres" on and posted a video about a game I played with it.)

I have been working on 2096 since high school. (A long time ago,) I made it because its a game and a world I want to play in. A world that sat in the dark in a blue binder collecting dust for quite some time. Dusting it off I finally opened it back up and released how much I missed and loved this world I created. Past session with family and friends, some no longer here. Yet the stories and memories that we made were like it was only yesterday. They were still alive, The world was still alive. I wanted to play it again. I wanted to do more than play it. I wanted to create new memories and share my world.

2096 is a world scorched by the sun. Controlled by corporations and raiders that prey upon the weak. Although plagued by desert creatures there is freedom in the wastes. While the tightly controlled mega cities offer ample employment for those daring.

The world is full of locations to explore and significant individuals who have shaped it. Significant individuals that appear in the full length novels I will be publishing. But that's another story.

Since I dusted the blue binder off I have played over a hundred session with friends from around the globe. Now I bring it to Kickstarter. (Well, at least pre-launch as I'm still balancing and editing.)

I could go on about the D12 system, how tactical combat is or how much lore the world already has but I wont. I will just say the world is ever changing. My players know that they effect everything. Even the novels.

I will be launching a free introduction pack (Basic rulesets and a starting scenario) on DTRPG soon. I have past sessions on YouTube, a game Discord and a website. I invite you to come adventure, explore, and uncover the mysteries that 2096 has to offer.

GMs of Modern Day and/or Post-Apocalyptic tabletop RPGs who want to make great-looking isometric maps should check out this crowdfunding campaign.

A quick glimpse at the content Add-Ons being offered:

And even if isometric mapping isn't your thing, this campaign is also a great way to pick up a MapForge license at a discount, in case you want to make top-down or hex-tile maps, instead.

The campaign is less than $800 from funding, and ends in 13 days.

Edit:
Here's a sample map I'm starting to put together using those assets. Wanted to make some multi-story buildings by stacking wall segments vertically. I hope to post a more complete version of the map in a week or so.
