This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Kickass non-English language rpgs

Ok, what incredibly cool rpgs are there that are not in English but that should be, for the benefit of those of us who aren't well versed enough in the relevant language to use them otherwise?

Here's some, I'll add more later.

Captain Alatriste, dude, it's based on the novels and is full of swashbuckling goodness.  A great game.

Aquellare, you can buy it in Spanish or translated into French but not in English.  Medieval fantasy with an emphasis on the medieval and for once actual historical-feeling spells.

Malefices, apparently a second edition of this seminal French horror rpg is due out soon, but when?

Draugr, a Norwegian rpg about folklore and Norwegian independence, vanishingly unlikely it will ever get translated particularly since the author has moved from trad rpgs now to more Forge like stuff.

Apokryph, actually I don't know if this is any good, but I like the idea of a modern day Vatican occult horror rpg.

There are tons more, I'll post some myself later, but add in your own.  What are we missing out on?

I concur on Apokryph. It's really good. Tough going in the French.
Also Te Deum (pour un massacre) too. I also bought teh French version of INS/MV and I'm pretty pleased.

To be honest, I didn't have enough money to buy ALL of the cool French RPGs I saw in Starplayer or Jeux Descartes in Paris.

As a Spanish-speaker, I'm drawn to Alatriste and that Spanish-language translation of Traveller that I've heard about.

Alatriste and Aquelarre kick ass.

By the way, the Alatriste movie is opening in the US pretty soon (November? December?), thanks to Fox.

Sosthenes

That's the one with Aragorn, isn't it?

Viggo Mortensen? Yes.

EDIT: There are several clips on You Tube, btw.

There must be some other cool ones out there.

Also, Pelorus, can you tell us a bit more about Apokryph and how it works?

Mr. Analytical

From France I'd list:

In Nomine Satanis/Magna Veritas (but only the second edition).

Bloodlust - Brutal fantasy game that includes the novel idea of you playing an intelligent weapon rather than the guy carrying it.  Best played with different players playing alternately their own weapons and each other's carriers.

Ecryme - Jules Vernian post-apocalyptic steampunk with an incredibly brutal combat system.  The only game I've ever run where the PCs outnumbered their enemy and I still got a TPK.

Hurlements/Chimeres - Pseudo-historical Initiatic game where the players play versions of themselves as were-animals.

Bitume - Fantastic satirical post-apocalyptic game based on Mad Max 2.

And obviously Nephilim and Te Deum.

EDIT: Oh and the new edition of Malefices in in December.

Sine Requie is an Italian post apocalyptic zombie setting that's pretty cool.  I dig it.

Finland doesn't exactly have a thriving RPG industry: the best-known local games are probably Praedor (sword & sorcery, and based on the comics by Petri Hiltunen) and Myrskyn Aika (fairly vanilla fantasy, but notable for its integrated tabletop/LARP rules as well as the attention it has received from literary critics).

Personally, I'm fond of Hiljaisuuden Vangit ("The Prisoners of Silence"). It's a diceless alt-history game in which Germany essentially bluffed the Allies into a standstill during WWII after the plan to drop a nuclear bomb in Berlin instead of Hiroshima failed disastrously, and went on to become the only genuine world power, with Finland as a kind of a satellite state used both for showcasing the best features of the system (in the southern half of the country) and for strange experiments (in the largely desolate north).
