WOTC wants to ensure that everyone has a nice, friendly, vanilla gaming session!!!

No matter what other bells and whistles they try to include in the DMG, to garner some sales numbers; just wait until they tell every DM how to run their gaming sessions!!!

There was no public playtest of any material in the DMG or MM. Those who foolishly spend money on these books will be paying for the privilege of doing so.

The most hilarious part of this is the X-card/lines/veils is literally from the fetish and BDSM community. So nobody sane should even want it to touch the game. I'm shocked this didn't lead into a second satanic panic. Having stuff coming from a real fetish world is IMHO much worse than fake "spells".

It seems that with each passing year, there is more of a push in "modern" rpgs; to turn the DM into a host and facilitator, for every whim of the players.  It's a little bit much.

Those same players, who want to play these "cool" player-driven rpgs; fully expect a DM to enter into such public service and serve them, like they are waiting on tables and shining shoes.

There has to be something there for the DM, too.  The DM is also playing the game, from a different angle.

Ah yes, session 0, where players get to lay down firm lines rather than have an adult discuss about what would make a fun game for everyone (and maybe find there is no middle-ground, thus saving everyone's time).

I can just imagine a KKK member finding himself in one of those situations, and his firm lines you must accept and you can't even discuss including:

1) women in positions of power
2) gay people
3) non-whites

Something tells me that the writers only ever thought about how they could use this power, and never wondered if it could ever be used against them.

I'm good with the general idea of a session zero. We used to do that all the time. It's the part where you're discussing the next campaign, and people are brainstorming setting and system and what they wanna do in the game.

I tried a Session 0 once, and all I got from my players was "Yeah sure, man. Whatever you want to do sounds cool." Haven't bothered since.

Do I have to play in an actual BDSM dungeon to be the Dungeon Master or owning the book make me eligible to this title and role ?
I know that the usual WotC/Hasbro (two souless ang greedy corporations which do not care about me) apologists will tell on social media how important those tools for making sure that everybody feels welcomme and safe at a D&D table, but by the blood of my forefathers, I would rather play Kult, high on narcotics, with Jehovah's witenesses as my players than cater to the shittiest persons on this Earth !

That's a good point, ForgottenF. In the past, I have occasionally had "Session Zeroes"--though it wasn't specifically called that. It was just a preparatory session to discuss the campaign, lore, world knowledge, and go through Character creation. Many other times, my players have had a similar response--"SHARK, you're the DM. Whatever you decide is good." Yes, while I am the tyrant king ruling from my throne so to speak--I've always had players *ask* me if they can play this or play that, because they were thinking of X. I am always in control. Players don't *tell me* anything. I think much of the more recent "Session Zero" and "Safety Tools" BS is clearly aimed at elevating the Players to this weird position of control over the campaign and dictating things, while simultaneously reducing and shackling the DM.

Of course, I'm not really a tyrant, but I am the DM, I am in control, and what I say, goes. Beyond that, though, it is *my* game world. *I* know it far better than my players. I know the societies and cultures far better, what is acceptable, what isn't acceptable, what things are likely and what things are unlikely. So, my players are always in a position of *asking* me this or that, but they never dictate or demand anything. I've never had any problems or real conflicts at my table. I think that much of this narcissistic and self-entitled behavior from Players is definitely a recent trend. It certainly never happened back in the day! *Laughing*

My world is pretty strongly a Dark Ages, Sword & Sorcery kind of world, with *some* carefully selected regions embracing some "Gonzo" elements. Lots of historical flavour, and while I have many different race and class and culture options that players can choose from, the milieu balance and verisimilitude is important, so there definitely are races and classes and whatever ideas that just are not appropriate, and simply do not fit.

I think the DM maintaining a strong sense of control, as well as expecting respect from the players--but also a degree of seriousness and respect for the game world, and the game itself, are important dynamics. I think these kind of ideas have more or less fallen out of fashion, which gives rise to much of the conflict and friction we often hear about at game tables--and the many DM's that have simply bowed down to the cultural river flow, and that in turn is why we see so many tables full of players running wild, absolutely crazy races and classes, and just running roughshod over the DM, and ultimately making the D&D game look pretty stupid in my view. So many stories of game groups are like, "WTF is happening there?" *laughing*
