I don't know the explanation or the story behind the topless videos (maybe there is one). To me, it gives me the impression that he is high on drugs (because of the toplessness and the wet hair, as if he was sweating), but besides those details, he doesn't seem high at all (coherent speech, clear train of thought, not jittering, etc.), so I don't think it is high when he records the videos.

I also don't get the idea of having the green screen as the background and keeping it green...

Yes, he does seem intoxicated in those videos and I really don't think they help him or his image.  I don't know if anyone has reached out to him and told him that maybe those videos don't help his cause.

y'all are really going to love the one that drops a week from Monday then. :P

For the record, lifetime teetotaler here, never used alcohol or recreational drugs (just prescribed drugs for the prescribed purpose).

I never wanted the channel to deal with serious stuff at all... the stuff from last summer is what I want the channel to be, with hopefully ever-improving production values because I can't find anyone locally to come show me how to use all this equipment I've gathered (online education doesn't at all work for me). I don't want to be the star of the videos, it'd be great if I was almost never on camera, but finding a longterm "host" isn't so easy. The series reading blog posts was a suggestion made to me to get some content up while trying to find someone else for the next series.

The present video being discussed, or the DriveThru video from the summer, those are unfortunate necessities. But youtube does seem to be a better way to get that stuff out than a blog post or Facebook.

As far as how I come across, the hoodie I wear out in the spring and autumn has BECAUSE FUCK YOU THAT'S WHY in big block letters on the back, that's how I go about in the world, that's about as serious as I really care to be in public.

It's all in service of a game that celebrates the aesthetics of death/black metal, the Books of Blood, and Lovecraft, so what does any of it matter anyway.

I don't see a damn thing wrong with yer vids jim, shirt or no, and increased production value only serves to add shit to a vid that causes me to have to click forward to skip intros and setups and jump to the points being made. Call it adhd if you like but I'm so past production value in vidya it is a quantum anomaly. Give me the bullet pointed shit succinctly and clearly please, i dislike when the the video host prevaricates and word plays and talks a whole lot of ancilliary shit on the way to the subject matter point that made me open the vid in the first place. You can "jink" out of such by clever use of a cat or puppy or something, but otherwise I hate filler.

Forget the dudes name there is a youtuber who talks tabletop looks similar to you a little, he just plops down and rambles, no bullshit no high production value, i find i don't skip through his vids so much, try that approach maybe. Hang on i'll try and find the guy.

that dude.

No, he doesn't... And having spent several years throwing drunken fools out of nightclubs I can tell you he comes across as completely sober.

I don't think he gives a shit either - So good on him for that too. It's obvious that he's doing this for fans and that's all he really needs.

So fuck everyone else who's been backstabbing him.

Heyyy!!! I returned to post some thoughts I recently had about this subject, and I see that you posted here. How nice!

I have watched other of the recent videos, and my latest thought is that the shirtlessness is on-brand. I am not into metal-music (industrial rock at the most, like NIN in the 90's style), so I don't know much about metal aesthetics and tones. Still, the shirtlessness and the high-on-drugs type do click in my mind as something I could relate to LotFP style, even now knowing that you have never done drugs (maybe I am just projecting my own addiction into things. Public service announcement: Kids, stay off drugs, it may seem fun from the outside, but in reality, it is hard to get off them, so better avoid...).

@JimLotFP, for whatever is worth, I think you are taking the proper stance. You keep doing what you believe is right and let your good work speak for itself. Nefarious forces have tried to suppress you, force you to bend your knees and comply. Fuck them. LotFP didn't get so far by trying to be vanilla. LotFP is its own flavor; whoever likes it likes it, and whoever doesn't should step aside. Continue to be death/black metal!!

As you mentioned in some post on Facebook, the people who appreciate your work should:
a) buy books
b) use those books to play the game

so lets get to it

It also doesn't hurt that we both love japanese pro wrestling  ;D

This is one of those sports I see pop up randomly. I forget about it, and then some passionate fan will post something about it, and it looks like a blast of a sport and fandom.

For what it's worth, I think the shirtless look is just fine.  It's just out there enough to make people a little bit uncomfortable, but not soo much so that people turn off the video.  And the content is generally good enough that if somebody wants to avoid the aesthetic they can just open another tab but keep the audio going (guilty as charged on occasion).

I was watching the video and my 25-year-old, non-RPG-playing daughter came in and ended up sitting through the whole thing.  Her thoughts were

a) take care of yourself and your mental health.  While you may be fine with slipping away from the world, there ARE a lot of people who would be diminished without you in the world.
b) She loved the message that the work was the important thing.  When the art is important enough to you, you'll find a way to get it out there no matter the obstacles.

So I'm guessing your videos are having some sort of effect, hopefully one that you are intending.

Making people uncomfortable when you have an important message seems self-defeating. Since this was a break in the normal LoTFP videos, and was about business he should have made it as business-like as possible so that folks didn't discount it based on unimportant things. Well that's my opinion anyway, he has a brand so he knows what's best.

That goes without saying. By saying it, you're also saying something else, intentionally or not.

Hey man, you do great work and it's good to hear you no longer care what the shithead haters think. You might have been joking but I for one would buy a book of adventures written by convicted felons. People who stay true to their art will always have an audience, a small one maybe, but a real one.

Yes, I actually can.

If someone doesn't like it, that's fine. Stick the account into your ignore file or whatever the platform equivalent is, and move on to the business of finding things you like.

There's no reason to react "poorly" or to work to prevent the people who might like it, from finding it.
