This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Question about the new Traveller Judge Dredd

Does anyone know if the new book coming out this month is a stand-alone game?

On one hand, it's called Judge Dredd the Roleplaying Game, not Judge Dredd Campaign Setting or something like that, which implies that it is stand-alone game using the Traveller mechanics.

On the other hand, in every description it's always referred to as a new setting for Traveller, which implies that it requires the Traveller main rulebook.

So which is it?

Hi,
This is quite an old thread, so you've probably already bough it and answered your own question, but...
You need the Traveller core rulebook to play the new Judge Dredd RPG. This is the info I could gleam from the website.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, and please tell me if it's worth getting. I'm seriously tempted.
Also, what about the other 2000AD RPGs? Any opinions?

You are correct, the MongTrav rulebook is needed.  That being said, Judge Dredd Traveller is awesome.  I got my copy on Friday and have been very pleased with it.  I'm psyched about running a game.

Care to tell us more about it?
At first glance, I would not consider Judge Dread and Trav to be a good fit.

Let me digest it a bit more, and I will be happy to give a more informative review.  Suffice to say, the book is a pleasure to read so far (insofar as AFMBE is the most enjoyable RPG rulebook I have read).

If there are any specific questions, I will be more than happy to answer them.  And to answer the most likely one, yes, it is possible to die as a judge while going through your lifepaths, but you could also take a penalty and ignore the death.

Looking forward to hearing more.

About 2o yrs ago I played a Judge Dredd RPG which also used the Traveller system. It worked well (or the GM smoothed out any bugs) as I remember. The reason it stuck in my mind is that it was the first RPG I played that had a separate rule-book. I've read some other reviews and it looks good although has a couple of bugs, which I'm sure could be worked out easily enough by a dedicated GM.
I'm gonna purchase it as soon as I can. I just bought the latest Traveller Core Rulebook in preparation (at great expense). Is it me, or are RPG books really expensive now?

Waiting for a review of Judge Dredd RPG from anyone who has actually played it...

Hi all,
In the last couple of days Mongoose has posted a FREE Judge Dredd miniatures game on its website. I just downloaded it (a few minutes ago) so I haven't even read the intro, but I thought you should know.
I just ordered my copy of the Dredd RPG. Watch this space.
