This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Its not a Regular RPG if...

Someone's sig around here says "Its not a real RPG if the GM can't do a total party kill without the players consent".

I agree very deeply with that statement.  So what else would constitute examples that would make a game NOT a Regular RPG?

Uh ... which way does this work?  If you say it's not a regular RPG then you are correct?  Or if you say that it is a regular RPG then that's proof positive that it isn't?

Either way would actually be really cool ... I'm just groovin' on the ambiguity. :D

Well, Tony, can we really be sure that our paths of communication is clear -- or even whether the communicator is really the one we assume he is? Therefore, post-modern doctrine leaves us in an undecided space.
Or put this way: If you put a book in a box, at one time it might be a RPG .. or not.

...as a player I'm expected to pay more attention to the situation as a whole than to my character.

In my opinion, once you get to the point where the emphasis is (as they say over at story games) "Our Story" as opposed to "My Character", you may as well junk the idea that each player controls a specific character and just give everyone GMing powers, with a system there to determine who gets to narrate what happens next. If you want to design a story game, actually design a story game, don't design a hybrid where I'm supposed to be thinking about the story but I still have a special character who is "my character", as if it's a traditional RPG or something.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

That's why Prime Time Adventure is the epitome of Story Game.
