This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

It just doesn't feel the same without real dice

I have dice in a box at my desk at work, in the front pouch of my briefcase, next to my bed, on the bookshelf and in a huge box in the living room.  My wife's dice are in a big glass jar here at the computer desk.

I do have a question; do the dice next to your bed have numbers? I mean we've got some dice there but they are *cough* custom for specific kinds of games. All the other dice are kept in the gaming cabinet. My geek cred is lacking I guess.

And don't forget to take clips (in advance) of various rolls to put to the cam for those special occasions... :)

I'll concur that randomly generating dice rolls just doesn't feel the same.

With that said, one night I knew I'd be rolling dozens of 20 siders.  I had a program roll 1,000 of them, arranged them in a matrix, and just went methodically from left to right checking them off as I needed a d20 result.

Worked wonderfully, but I agree - it lacked some charm.

Quote from: Casey777There's always the honor system, where you still roll your favorite dice and then type in the result. I prefer it to dicebots which sometimes seem to get "stuck", winding up less random than they should be.

They get stuck because they're not coded right. It's difficult to explain, but it has to do with how the random number is generated.
