Title: Is there a RPG scene on Indiegogo? Anything of note?
Post by: Spinachcat on June 23, 2019, 12:42:53 AM
When I think RPGs (or boardgames) and crowdfunding, I only think Kickstarter, but then I started wondering about Indiegogo. I've never used it and maybe I've missed out.

Any Indiegogo fans?

What have you backed?

What's the RPG / Games scene like there?

What's the big difference between the game projects there vs. KS?

I haven't backed any RPG stuff on Indiegogo, and, in fact, have only backed one single item, the CZUR Aura scanner, which seemed big enough/legit enough to not get hosed on.

As far as RPG stuff - I know Frog God uses Indiegogo to fund printing of small run stuff that they consider "one-shot" and what not - usually $5K deals.

I think Grim has used Indiegogo, and I'm sure there's a fair amount of others that have used it.

I don't like that Indiegogo and other similar crowdfunding sites collect immediately, rather than at project end, and that they collect regardless of whether or not a goal is reached.

Indigogo seems to have a bad reputation with gamers.  I'm not sure why , though the immediate collection of funds may be part of it.  I think the way to approach that would be to say, here's what you get regardless of what we get, and it's already done and ready, and then build on some stretch goals.

Their big schtick is they take Paypal and creators get the funds regardless if it funds.

I think KS now offers the latter option.

For a while, a lot of companies used IGG, but they seem to have gone back to Kickstarter

I just can't find anything on IndieGogo as easily as Kickstarter. In search results, I'm always trying to figure out if a campaign is active or not--and if I can get whatever it is. I gave up. I want to like the "Conservative" comics they fund there, but they just don't do anything for me, which disincentivizes learning to use the site.
