This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So, it seems that White Wolf doesn't have the energy fitting in goths and punks into a fantasy setting and so tries to make some kind of modern, urban super-hero game where the players are descendants of the gods themselvs, thus enabling every lip-pierced job-less wonder to re-imagine themselves into the harbinger of Thor.

Or do they? What's that new game about? Is it Nail Gaiman meets "religons of the ancient world" booklet? Something half-way decent? How much effort would I need to spend to re-work the daughter of Aphrodite into a Street Figher challenger? Would she call me back?

Close as I can gather - and this may simply be what I'd do with it based on what I've read in threads, mind - it's something like American Gods if it were an action movie. You can do some other stuff with it, I'm sure, but that's what caught my eye.
Heroism is no more than a chapter in a tale of submission.

Apparently it's just a list of powers.  There's no setting, aside from unspecific references to a war between the gods and the titans somewhere else.

You should take a moment to check out my review!

The Titans, creatures of chaos, have begun to slip the bonds of their imprisonment in the Earth.  The Gods, long avoiding contact with humanity for fear that human belief would change them through the power of Fate, have been gathering their children, Scions, for the coming war.  Old grudges reignite and new ones are forged as the Scions leave aside worldly concerns to battle against their destroyers for themselves and their patrons.

Even though I got a PM on the other board from some rabid nutjob telling me it's vitriol for saying it, I still think this is good advice:

Download the demo and find out for yourself how worthless it is.

Yeah, there is a level of frothing fan-boy love for the game at the moment that has encouraged me not to discuss it in any detail :)

I've read the review before posting (very good, BTW), I've even waded through the demo, but I'd still like to get some kind of holistic emotional response from those who actually paged through the whole book.

How appalling is the intro fiction? Will it make me run to the next Asatru meeting, crying for the blood of heathens?

Yet you wrote a huge review about it!

There's some general hate-on for anything from WW here, but I'm withholding judgement. It's about 12 minutes old, so the dudes and ladies in love with it should probably curb their enthusiasm too. >.>
God in the Machine.

Here's my website. It's defunct, but there's gaming stuff on it. Much of it's missing. Sorry.

I've got a blog. Do you read other people's blogs? I dunno. You can say hi if you want, though, I don't mind company. It's not all gaming, though; you run the risk of running into my RL shit.

I flipped through a copy at my game store and put it back.  It doesn't seem to do anything clever or novel but for those who collect "more of the same" it might appeal as a new(ish) setting to play in.

True!  Writing reviews and participating in give and take discussion are pretty different though.  Blessedly different.

It's alright.  It does a good job of giving you the feel of mythological things happening out in the middle of nowhere, kinda WoD style.  Its a fine intro to the book in that it shows someone going through the whole "becoming a Scion" process.  It's not very well paced, though, and I wouldn't have finished reading it but for my obligation as a reviewer.

I really would have preferred more short pieces of fiction, like what we see in other White Wolf books.

For most folk the adventure and opening fiction, almost 100 pages of the book, are going to be a wash.  Unless you run the adventure you wont be referring to either item again after reading the book.

I'm going through a resurgance of interest in White Wolf games right now and what I hear about Scion does absolutely nothing for me.

If it's set in the modern world, what kind of setting material do you expect? I'm not a huge fan of the game or anything (I just started reading it), I'm just wondering.

We're still talking about White Wolf here, right?
