Apparently, Upper Deck is trying to buy Topps.
Upper Deck has a division that makes games like Yu-gi-oh, and Topps owns Wizkids.
Information here (http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_17211.shtml), here (http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory?id=3211899), and a google search (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22Upper+Deck%22+Topps&btnG=Google+Search) with a ton of stuff here.
It may sound strange, but it takes me back to when I was a kid and I collected baseball cards and Topps was the big name and Upper Deck was the new kid, putting out snazzy and more expensive cards.
Huh.
As for the hobby implications? Maybe it will help stabilize things for both companies, which can be a good thing.
who else does cards, aside from those two?
i remember topps cards as a kid, with the gum & flour on it. . . .
fuck now i feel old

I feel ya, buddy.
That gum usually crumbled into sharp little pieces.
I still remember being excited at getting a Cal Ripken card, circa '87. Loved the Orioles and Expos (Indy was their AAA affiliate)--I think I had all the Expos Topps cards from 1985-1987. :)
