This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Interesting discussion with a halohead on gaming. We're all going to hell.

Quote from: RPGPunditYes, well, christian fundamentalists in the United States were largely responsible for prohibition, even though alcohol is not only specifically mentioned in the Bible, it forms a central part of the most significant ritual of the new testament; and has been a part of the Christian tradition for the last 2000 years.

So there you go, extremists do all kinds of wacky things that don't even make sense within their own religions.

[Exasperation mode] Yes, pundy, now please find us some photos of people being taken out into a sportsfield, forced to kneel and being shot thru the back of the head by christian extremists during prohibition for defying christian law by drinking. I'll wait.....[/Exasperation mode]

Maybe you heard of a little something called.. the mob? They've buried more than a few people in sportsfields, and Prohibition got them started. They're all good catholic boys too.

Not to mention the Klan.  Lynched black men for so much as looking at white women.  Good christians. You know all about them, don't you?

You stupid fuck. You're comflating the oriental equivalent of the Klan with the rest of the muslim world. And your same tired arguments over and over again, ignoring the vast majority of the muslim world, reality, and all domains of sanity, have probably done more to garner sympathy for Islam on this website than anything the best mullah could have done.

Not to mention your constant and astounding ignorance on the topic.  Who was it that sacked Constantinople? Tell me again about how Jews are scared to have a synagogue in Tehran?? You cunt. Your every word sings to the world "I didn't make it out of high school". What's worse, you actually take pride in your ignorance. There are few things in the world that I despise more than that.  You don't WANT to learn or grow intellectually, because that would require that you recognize that you're ignorant right now, and it would require you to change, and to hate less, and, most importantly, it would require actual effort.

Retard. "The mob" does NOT openly and publicly murder people on camera in public places for all to see, when they di it they have to do it covertly. The klan does not openly and blatantly murder people in public on video for all to see, they have to do it covertly and risk capture, arrest, trial, prison and even execution.

That's because the mob and the klan don't run america. The fucking taliban ran afghanistan and operated openly because they were the government and the power in that country.

Ahh, what's the use? Your skull is denser than solid neutronium, no matter what anyone shows you you'll just parrot "America is as bad!"

Before the era of video - the Klan DID blatantly murder people in public.
LONG Wikipedia article about them : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ku_Klux_Klan

Also, there were parts of the country (USA)  that they outright ran until at least the early 1930s.  Indiana  politics were heavily influenced by the Klan for decades.

QuoteThrough sympathetic elected officials, the KKK controlled the governments of Tennessee, Indiana, Oklahoma, and Oregon in addition to some of the Southern legislatures. Klan influence was particularly strong in Indiana, where Republican Klansman Edward Jackson was elected governor in 1924, and the entire apparatus of state government was riddled with Klansmen. In another well-known example from the same year, the Klan decided to make Anaheim, California, into a model Klan city; it secretly took over the city council, but was voted out in a special recall election.[47]

Quote from: Dominus NoxWell, when the taliban took over the nation of afghanistan, all forms of games were forbidden upon pain of death, flogging, mutilation, etc. In fact after america liberated afghanistan from the taliban BTW, going into afghanistan=GOOD, going into iraq was the gigafuck.

In 2006 in Afghanistan, Abdul Rahman was sentenced to death for converting to christianity. This was a sentence not brought about by the Taliban, but by the government of Hamid Karzai, set up by the American led coalition. How liberated is that Nox?
Rahman eventually escaped execution after intense international pressure and by pleading insanity. He became an asylum seeker in Italy. So much for American 'liberation'.

So atheists have been abused, treated badly by clergy or they\'re stupid.They\'re just being trendy because they can\'t understand The God Delusion because they don\'t have the education, plus they\'re just pretending to be atheists anyway. Pundit you\'re the one with a problem, terminal stupidity.

The Taliban are a terrible thing for their country and its people, Nox is right on that, in the same way as a stopped clock tells the time twice a day.

He's wrong of course on the rest of this shit and on his comparisons.

The same could be said about you Nox. No matter what anyone shows you about the KKK's evil you'll just parrot " I respect the KKK". Most likely your head is denser than strange matter and your neurons fire at a very slow rate when reason appears in that witless noggin of yours.

I never implied that the Taliban were anything other than nasty authoritarian killers. It is a pity that a country supposedly liberated by America is still intent on murdering religious converts.

I wonder if it's ever occurred to Nox that the Afghans have always been trouble no matter what their religion. Fuck, I'd be trouble if I lived in a shithole like that. Let's not forget that the reason the Taliban gained widespread support was that they looked better than any other alternative.

This is a really interesting book I'm currently reading about Afghanistan:

"Unexpected Light" by Jason Elliot.

Many, if not most, of the guys fighting the rise of the Taliban in Afganistan were also muslims.

According to Elliot's accounts before the Taliban (or Taleban as it was spelled back then) came to power they were considered by many Afghan muslims to be drunks, drug dealers and fanatics who were very far from The Book.   And funded by the American government, which made them doubly untrustworthy.

droog

The thing is that comparing the US to Afghanistan in order to point out the flaws of Islam is not comparing like with like. Let's instead compare Afghanistan with Rwanda, where both Hutus and Tutsis were Catholics.

Its like you're saying that our fancy morals, tolerance and freedoms come not from an inner source of goodness but from financial priviledge? Why, its almost like you're some kind of Marxist! :D :p
