This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Independent D20 publishers

I'd love to see more D20 publishers at least being approached by IPR.  I mean, I'd really love to see more signing on, but that's well beyond my realm of influence.

Brennan's willing to make some recruiting calls, but he's intimidated by the sheer crowding factor there, and so am I.  I don't know who to recommend he contact, and I don't want to send him on an endless trek through every publisher in existence.

I summon the roleplaying knowledge of the RPG.Site!  Or ... something.  Help me out here, guys.  Who's got good product for D20 (or OGL, I suppose) and creator-owned?  Who are your favorites?  Who should we (by which I mean poor Brennan) be callin'?

I'm not too plugged into IPR or what they are about, other than to say an early experience with one of their boosters turned me off to paying too much attention to them.

But as most on this forum should know, my favorite D20-derived product is the Spycraft line, which is produced by creator-owned Crafty Games. They are publishing by way of Mongoose, so I don't know if they precludes further discussion.
The Secret Volcano Base: my intermittently updated RPG blog.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

Eh.  Can't imagine it precludes discussion.  Maybe they'll say "Gotta tell you no," but that's not a big deal.  After all, it's Brennan's time I'm wasting, not my own :D   On the list they go!

Well, in my opinion, I'd say of Indie d20 publishers, Expeditious Retreat Press are easily far & away the best out there.  But they sort of have their own thing going with Your Games Now as well, so I don't know where that'd leave you.

Quicklink Interactive publishes Traveller d20, and they're usually pretty below the radar...but I don't know if that's quite what IPR'd be looking for.

Why the fuck would any D20 publisher want to join up with a group that bases its entire ideology and gets all its momentum from the claims that D20 is "Broken" and "Incoherent", and where they would probably suffer abuse from the movement's leader as he'd claim that they aren't really "Indie" enough (just like Palladium and Steve Jackson games somehow aren't "Indie")?

Fuck, man, I'd gleefully sell the hell out of any Traveller property.  They're creator-owned?  I'll ask Brennan to talk to 'em.

Obvouisly, you don't know what IPR is then. :haw:

They already have a few tradtional RPG publishers and are not opposed. IIRC, there is no direct connection between IPR and the Forge, it just so happens that some of the forgies sell through IPR.

This is true in the same sense that there's no "direct connection" between Sinn Fein and the IRA.

Dude, Pundit, whatever.  You think that no sane D20 people will take Brennan up on an offer.  That's cool.  You're entitled to your opinion, and you've stated it.

Now, I'd like it if we could keep the thread uncluttered by tangents, so that we can keep focussing on the business of figuring out what D20 people are good candidates for IPR to reach out to.  If the effort is foredoomed to failure (as you claim) then I don't see how it can do any harm.

Certainly no sane and well-informed people, no. It would be like a sane orthodox jew joining a "jews for jesus" club.

Aside from freelancers, it's one person, Hunter Gordon. Obviously, he has a licensed property (Traveller), but the T20 book shares his name. He has in the past, and probably will again, employ other folks to write supplements, adventures, and suchnot.

The licensing agreements for T20 products are a bit more complicated than that, I'm afraid.
"Meh."

That thought was sort of kicking around in the back of my head.  Likely the same boat with ComStar Games, then.
