This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

WFRP - Entertainers

So i'm planning on writing a supplement that covers the various forms of entertainment and entertainers of the old world.

WFRP fans, what sort of thing would you like to see in such a document?

Prostitutes - I'm not kidding. I think there's no profession more grim and perilous than prostitution.

Warrior/Poet - Something akin to a DnD Bard, but less gay.

Muse - A person who goes around lending his/her services as inspiration

I can't remember if there is an entertainer career in 2nd ed, but if not I remember at least seeing one on the BI website, so it's probably on the FFG site now.  But WFRP 1e had a nice simple entertainer career that basically had a whole bunch of or skills and talents you chose from and it did a pretty good job of covering most types of entertainers that you'd see in a circus or a street corner.

Beyond that I never saw a need to delve into it more.  Now that my memory is working a little more in the Warhammer Companion IIR has a nice little section on a circus/freak show group that's a pretty fun read.

Are you familiar with the King in Yellow and it's place in CoC lore?   I could see something similiar in WFRP.

Entertainment and entertainers could be an interesting area for WFRP - instead of bear-baiting, maybe they have Orc-baiting or Beastmen-baiting and certainly underground cage fights against the weird.

Plays and poets are an interesting area to explore - especially the heretical ones and the socially dangerous ones that speak out against the various religions, hypocrisies and the nobility.

Jugglers, circus folk and street performers are all interesting side details and then the addition of magic adds a new element.   What would a magic show look like in the Old World where magic actually works?

Personally, I love idea of medieval puppet shows...performed by night goblins!

That class already exists in WFRP, except for "sanitary" reasons (ie. kids might buy it) they disguised it as "camp follower".  A camp follower was basically a whore who made her living marching along with an army.

The Camp Follower calls though also covered scavengers who basically cleaned up the battlefield after the fact through looting and what not.  Not to mention baggage train handlers etc... So while prostitution is certainly one roll for a Camp Follower it's not the only possible one.

Monkey Boy

1e had the animal trainer, I think it was a subcareer off the entertainer. I remember looking at the class and marvelling at all the animals you could own and coming up with ways they could be used in an adventure. Around about the 15th character rolled up for a WFRP I managed to get a halfling with a dancing bear. The animal handler looked, felt and played very different to a typical D&D ranger. I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Animal handlers and dancing bears please.
Occasionally running - B/X D&D and toying with the idea of WFRP 2e
