This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

@JimBob: I do not appreciate your rather bland anti-intellectual stance.

Tou should probably use nWoD's Toilet: the Flushening. It was designed specifically for your needs.

Ugh. Why would you use the awkward Storyteller system when you can use D20 Bathroom?

Here's my website. It's defunct, but there's gaming stuff on it. Much of it's missing. Sorry.

I've got a blog. Do you read other people's blogs? I dunno. You can say hi if you want, though, I don't mind company. It's not all gaming, though; you run the risk of running into my RL shit.

Because d20 Bathroom is full of typos and errors. You can't even get the Wipe Your Ass Clean feat until 3rd level.

I think it's a fitting and inevitable balancing of the scales after all the dead guy philosophy chatter. A little Kantian ethics here, toilet jokes there, and before you know it there's balance to the cosmos again.

You're just talking shit, now.

I don't have much choice, I'm not third level yet.

Quote from: Settembrini@JimBob: I do not appreciate your rather bland anti-intellectual stance.
Good thing I don't have one, then. I am not against intellectuals, I am against pretension and poor writing.

Intellectual, noun: An intellectual is a person who uses his or her intellect to study, reflect, or speculate on a variety of different ideas; a person who uses the mind creatively.

Intellect, noun: the capacity for rational thought or inference or discrimination; "we are told that man is endowed with reason and capable of distinguishing good from evil."
Ain't nothin' about usin' long words in there.

To use the mind creatively (be an "intellectual") requires that the person be able to think clearly. To think clearly a person must be able to express themselves clearly. When we express ourselves clearly and simply, we'll quickly see if our ideas are good or bad.

Whereas if we express ourselves unclearly, with lots of long or rarely-used words, then it won't be as obvious when we're talking nonsense.

It's more usual these days to say things like, "it is in my opinion a not-unjustified assertion that -" instead of, "I think." The first sentence has more words, and longer words, but has no more meaning than the second - it's just like a bird fluffing up its feathers to look bigger and scarier. It's an attempt to sound more intelligent and credible. "Wow, if he uses long words like that, he must be smart!" That's pretension.

I am very much in favour of intellectuals, of people who use their intellect to study, reflect, or speculate on a variety of different ideas, of people who uses their minds creatively. I think that's wonderful.

I am not in favour of pretension and poor writing. That leads to people becoming more stupid. Pretension means that we mistake idiots for geniuses, liars for honest people; poor writing means that we mistake bad ideas for good ones. No real intellectual would want that, only a wanker.

Quote from: Calithena... Question to the moderators: just how loosely moderated is rpgsite? If one poster, call him "Calithena", were to tell another poster, call him, say, "JimBob", to go suck Cthulhu's great black pustulent oozing protuberance, would that be over some kind of line? Or can we do that sort of thing around here?

Calithena:

Maybe I misinterpreted JimBob's post, but I thought that it wasn't that hostile, but rather a good-natured jest.:raise:

This is one of the hazards of on-line communication.

Anyway, I thought JimBob's post was pretty funny, and I did not interpret as a general criticism of you.   I certainly hope you stick around despite this incident!  :)

EDIT: To elaborate: I think he was making fun of the way that this whole discussion descended into 'philosophy land' with its various terms, etc.  And ... fair enough.

I've called RPGPundit a lawncrapper.  I'd say pretty loosely.

Frankly, we would prefer it.

As in, we would prefer that you say things up front, than go around with passive-aggresive nonsense.

Anyways, what you said above wouldn't be even close to the line. It would be about 20km away from the Line, where there's a very pleasant country in that you can have an excellent microbrewed ale called "old speckled hen".  The owners of said inn have heard of the Line, but will assure you that "ye're still a long ways off, sonny boy".
