This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

If you could hand out a copy of a free RPG to everyone...

I'd hand out copies of the old Dragon Warriors game, which was released as a a series of novel-sized paperbacks in the UK. A superb entry level game.

For more experienced gamers it'd have to be WFRP (either edition). It's a classic, and more prone to misunderstanding by those who haven't read it than most other systems out there.

Quote from: Blue DevilCan you tell me alittle more about this game?  I have heard a lot about it but only recently heard of it's exsistance

All I can do at the moment is this,

And say that no other pulp that I know of can come near this game,
for the colour and level of control you have,
even the character gen is a fun game in its self,

Thank you for the links!

I am very found of pulp and I have been looking for the right system to run a pulp based game.

Adventure! was ok but there was something about that game and the system that really bugged the hell out of me.

I know that Adventure itself does have it's fans and people who actually like the system.

Who knows, maybe it is me

Quote from: Blue DevilYou are right.   Where I am they don't show it all the time but you are right, they do show it.  If it was in the movie theater and then not shown again I guess my point would be correct.

I stand corrected

Thats worthy of respect,
it takes balls to admit your wrong :D

For non-gamers: I'd have to go with Pokethulu. It's fun, easy to play, and it's something they could relate to.

For gamers: I don't know. They are a quirky bunch. Either Jags-Wonderland or Cold Space.
Timeless Games/Better Mousetrap Games - The Creep Chronicle, The Fifth Wheel - the book of West Marque, Shebang. Just released: The Boomtown Planet - Saturday Edition. Also available in hard copy.

We spent over two days straight without sleep playing those when it came out, Ahhh the punch drunk memories

I'd probably hand out FATE to gamers. It's easy to learn and use, has only a few tricks to learn before you can play, and gives you a lot of room to develop the campaign you want to play.

To non-gamers, I'd give them the nWoD and Vampire: the Requiem. It's not as geeky as a fantasy game, and it's easier to learn than old school Vampire: the Masquerade.
Running
The Pernicious Light, or The Wreckers of Sword Island;
A Goblin\'s Progress, or Of Cannons and Canons;
An Oration on the Dignity of Tash, or On the Elves and Their Lies
All for S&W Complete
Playing: Dark Heresy, WFRP 2e

Vampires are less geeky than fur-clad barbarians? Have you ever seen a single sports broadcast?

But the logic isn't totally wrong. But then the solution isn't vampires, but cowboys! Come on, they're even the default explanation for role-playing... Now if there only were a good non-OOP wild west RPG without any foreign factors (i.e. not you, Deadlands).

This makes sense.  Because Jags-Wonderland is really just a take on Alice in Wonderland isn't it?

And who doesn't know Alice in Wonderland?

I am most of the gamers have been exposed to Alice in Wonderland in some form (Movie, Book, Etc).

I don't know - it's been impossible to mention cowboys in the last couple of years without having to suffer through countless bad jokes about Brokeback Mountain.

Besides, the game the non-gaming community really wants is "Football: The Quarterbacking".  If someone could figure out a way to combine fantasy football with roleplaying (in a good way), you'd have a hit.
Now Prepping: One-shot adventures for Coriolis, RuneQuest (classic), Numenera, 7th Sea 2nd edition, and Adventures in Middle-Earth.

Recently Ended: Palladium Fantasy - Warlords of the Wastelands: A fantasy campaign beginning in the Baalgor Wastelands, where characters emerge from the oppressive kingdom of the giants. Read about it here.

Blood Bowl? :D

Hmm, IIRC there's a D20 setting where the players are competitors in publicly broadcast "dungeon crawls", i.e. a mix between The Running Man and the usual D&D stuff.

Other than that (and Blood Bowl, maybe), sports and role-playing don't mix. Most sports guys wouldn't care, especially if it wasn't a licensed game anyway (with all the current players, teams etc.).

Or judging from the proliferation of shows: CSI. They already have a decent franchise...

(Though I'd rather play Boston Legal: The Game)

It's a pretty warped take on Alice in Wonderland (or, well Lewis Carroll's books, AiW is the Disney movie). I think it might be a bit tough for new gamers to get their heads around (and I wrote it)--but it's free. There's some beautiful artwork in there--who knows, it might grab 'em :)

Edited: I see this was for experienced gamers--yeah, shouldn't be too hard for an experience gamer to make at least heads or tails of JAGS Wonderland (I think).
JAGS Wonderland, a lavishly illlustrated modern-day horror world book informed by the works of Lewis Carroll. Order it Print-on-demand or get the PDF here free.

Just Released: JAGS Revised Archetypes . Updated, improved, consolidated. Free. Get it here.

Xcrawl is the game you're thinking of in the first para I think, I always thought it sounded quite fun.

Wait, when I give these games out.. do I want them to actually play? Or just be impressed by me?
Download Secret Santicore! (10MB). I painted the cover :)
