This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

If you could hand out a copy of a free RPG to everyone...

Same here, just without the Gloat,

Non-gamers: D&D 3.5 Player's Handbook
Gamers: This is a tough one.  The obvious answer is D&D, but most every gamer is already familiar with it.  It's a tossup for me between Star Wars D6 and All Flesh Must Be Eaten.

Seriously.

I was going to say that, it really is the best for a non game,
1) Most people have seen the film therefore they know the setting,
2) Dirt simple rules system, (even more simple than D6 Star Wars)

And if I could give any RPG away freely to everyone it would be

In its day, it really had a lot to offer to established gamers, too.  Fifteen, twenty years later, a lot of the fundamental concepts that were new or important to the game have been co-opted into the mainstream of RPG design, but I think it could still have a lot to offer to newer members of the RPG community.

That is a nice game,

Time Lord.

Becasue I think it's a great game, because there's a surprising dearth of interest in Doctor Who roleplaying despite the revival of the series, and because a sudden onrush of popularity might encourage the BBC to allow the authors to do a 2nd edition, perhaps with some better writing and updated material for the new series.

It's also a wonderful game for introducing new gamers in some ways, in that it's very much written from the perspective of introducing people who've never even heard of an RPG to the concept.

Agreed, and it's probably the best option when introducing kids to the hobby.

I once had them both as well, my father threw all my stuff out when he moved- he said later that it was just a bunch of junk; you know, junk, like the ringworld stuff, classic traveller Lbb's, Dragonquest, Universre, Superworld, 1e Gamma world, Ruinquest, D&D, a full run of Sandman, Watchmen, Darknight... junk.
Guess I shouldn't have told him to fuck off when he tried to get me to major in Human Resources :(.

I made the wise decision to be much older and on my own when I got into RPGs, therefore I still have my Ringworld, LBBs, 1e Gamma World, SPI Universe, etc.

On the other hand, my mother threw out tens of thousands of dollars worth of baseball cards I left stored at the house. Old junk... I never told her how much that hurt... I feel your pain, Aos!

Quote from: NicephorusI guess the Moldvay Basic D&D...

Yeah, this would be my first choice for non-gamers.  (The Troll Lords are coming out with a similar 'basic set' for C&C, so that potentially could be a good 'in print' substitute for the Moldvay set.)

For gamers, either Angel or Rolemaster Classic, depending on my sense of their interests.
