This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

If Palladium...

I was just thinking what it would be like if Palladium wasn't run by such a volatile guy and their game system was a bit less clunky and a bit more organized (opinions that seem to be shared by the majority of gamers).  I mean, could you imagine.  A multiverse of games that rarely get new editions and are available for a consistently cheap price for years and years.  Products only coming out when the publisher thinks it's a good idea, not because of the money aspect of it.  It really would make the industry a different place if there was a "power player" company like this.

Just a Random thought.

I think the Universe needs more Kevins and Ericks and less Noonans and Jacobs.

Palladium is great.

There's going to be a live "radio style" call in show and interview with Siembieda and Tommy Yune from Harmony Gold regarding the new Robotech game on 9/14.

Thing is, Palladium wouldn't be Palladium if it was run by anyone other than KS. It's his baby - gonzo settings, gonzo management style. Can't have one without the other. Yes, the warts and mistakes are annoying, but are inseparable from the good stuff.

I've known people like KS. Creative, driven, right-brain types, a lot of people just don't get them and they end up making a lot of enemies, because they live in their own world. They go bankrupt, have messy divorces, create, drink, and generally live ten times the life the rest of us do. They might forget that they owe you $50, but more power to them...the Siembiedas of this world make it a hell of a lot more interesting.

I think that call-in show is going to be really interesting!  I'm curious to see who all calls in!!!

Palladium can drive me crazy sometimes, but I love 'em anyway.  Their books are brimming with more sheer enthusiasm and craziness than anything else out there.  When I read a Rifts or Palladium Fantasy book, I come away wanting to play.  I like reading when the author seems genuinely excited about his products--just look at the italics and exclamation points used. :p   Too many RPG authors these days seem to write dispassionately--hey, if you aren't excited about your game, how am I supposed to be?

Hey, the first commercial pdf is coming out, Kev has a forum/bloggy thing--change may come slowly, but it comes.  But in some things, infuriating as it may be, I like the way things are.  It might be a mess sometimes, but it's a big, creative, bubbling, happy mess.  With plasma guns.

Here's an intersting story. Maybe.

Back when Rifts first came out I wrote to Kevin Siembieda and asked him about creating a fanzine. This is when Zines (hand-assembled and photocopied like Factsheet 5) were kinda hip. This was meant to be new Rifts content (basicly stuff I had come up with for my Rifts campaign at the time).

He wrote me back a fairly nice personal letter that basicly said "no" but mentioned that he had done that exact thing with D&D with a friend of his named Alex Marciniszyn. He also gave a quick critique of the list of new weapons and MDC armor I had created that I had sent along.

The letter was typed* (not printed. it had whited out mistakes) and signed.

I've always liked Palladium. I just don't care for rifts - not my style - but the rest of their stuff is cool! I picked up the new ATB at GenCon, and I love it! Not quite up to TMNT, but I already have that, and this has other awesomeness!

I've always wished there was a cheapy $10-15 intro/quickstart for Palladium.  I bought the first Mechanoid Invasion/Journey/Homeworld blue-books many years ago, and thought they were the coolest thing ever. (This was 1981, however, and I was still riding my Star Wars high at the time...)

I understand that it's a gonzo hodgepodge of genres, but I can see the attraction.

Is there such a thing as a quickstart?  Am I better served getting the latest version of Rifts or what?

When I bought TMNT it was exactly that. I can't remember if it was $9.95 or 12.95, but it was under $20.

Indeed awesome! TMNTAOS was one of the greatest RPGs of all time. Every supplement was top notch, and Transdimensional was maybe the best. :D
