This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I watch to Pundit's Youtube videos.

Quote from: Nerzenjäger;1072108I watched in the beginning, because I like to read Pundit, but eventually stopped. I really have no need for a 2nd hand Sargon in my YT feed and the same, boring classical liberal takes on hobby news. No offence, just not my cup of tea.

Are you saying I'm too left-wing for you?

Occassionally, yes. But that's not the main issue. The classical liberal lens bores me to tears in its predictability and the topics remind me too much of the stuff Sargon or Quartering would handle in their respective niches. That doesn't disqualify all of your content, but most of your solo videos.

Quote from: Shawn Driscoll;1071959The Millennial mindset plays RPGs very differently than Baby-Boomers and GenX mindsets. And guess what? Politics is a huge reason behind it. If you ignore politics, well then that is just part of the politics that you belong to whether you know it or not. There are 50-year-old woke players. Lots. Go to any game store.

Not one member of either of my regular groups is a boomer. I haven't noticed them playing any differently than anyone else. Matter of fact, I've had no one near my age at any table I've played at for, oh, I'd say 15 years? Not saying you're full of shit. Just saying my personal experiences don't bear out your observations.

Yeah, philosophical consistency is such a bitch! If only we believed in the holy spirit and the divine right of kings and didn't need any more kind of ethical groundwork for what we argue than "ghost jesus said so!"

You literally believe you are a wizard.

No, I don't 'believe' I am one. Belief doesn't enter into it at all. That's like saying that I "believe I smoke a pipe". No, I actually do smoke a pipe, I don't need to believe, because it's a thing I do not a thing I have faith about.

Yes, you can call spirits from the vasty deep ... but do they come when you do call for them?

For your sake, I hope not.

I listen to him also and I like his videos. I have to admit that there isn't much visual appeal, although I appreciate cats. I don't listen because his politics are close mine, even though they are. For entertainment purposes, I prefer listening to people that I disagree with. However, his gaming talk is interesting and he  articulated some things I knew but hadn't known how to explain before. Also, I admire him because he doesn't ban people for disagreeing with him, even the ones who are impolite.

I'll certainly admit about the visual appeal. My videos are basically really just podcasts.

I just saw the videos The D&D DM is NOT a "Storyteller" and The Modern Novel Was a Mistake and its bad for D&D Too and both are very insightful. The first one has a very clear explanation about what a GM is not supposed to do. It was very familiar to me, because that is what White Wolf always promoted. Being a Storyteller and railroad your players through a story always felt very unnatural to me. Not very organic. And I found it actually a lot more difficult, because you have to keep track of a lot things in case your players leave the railroad and come back on track later.

The second one is about the player's talking a lot about the psychology of their characters. What they are feeling and thinking. The tempo comes to a halt and I find it very pretentious. Why not just do something? I found that at a WoD play by post, so White Wolf again. I guess the Storygames and the Forge are even worse at this.

You can add DnD Stuff They Taught You Wrong on Purpose #4: Roleplay Vs Rules to the mix. Again I found the WoD having increasingly more rules in areas where I thought "Why do you need rules for that?". Mostly stuff like social combat, but also rules for graffiti tags, rules for having an area under your control, rules for amnesia with older vampires etc. Stuff that I like to just wing it and get it out of the way.
May I say that? Yes, I may say that!

I never thought I would recognize this (in public), but yeah. I like the videos from RPGPundit, in particular, the one called "The D&D DM is NOT a Storyteller"
I said it. I feel better already :)

Not a negative.  I am usually doing something else while listening to your videos.  That I need not look up from what I am doing is a positive.

All you really need is a better mic, and not to use your phone, so you can plug a better mic into your laptop (or whatever).
