This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I may have said somebody of the community comes across as fake. Am I wrong?

So yeah, I may have said Ginny Di is coming across as fake and that she jumped on the D&D-bandwagon because it's now popular. It's a little twitstorm right now, I'm afraid. Am I the only one thinking she comes across as fake?

I've been accused of gatekeeping and whatnot. Is this where we are now?

EDIT changed spelling of 'populair' to 'popular'

I can't say I know who that is, but people in the public eye are sometimes a little behind the times in discovering they like something popular. It doesn't mean their liking for it is necessarily faked purely for audience-performance purposes. She may be coming across as studied and awkward, but people do, sometimes, even when being sincere.

Now that doesn't mean you're wrong, either. Maybe it is a bandwagon jump. But the problem with being a public celebrity of any degree is that people will have this kind of skepticism about anything done in one's public persona. Granting people the benefit of the doubt where possible is seldom a bad idea, I find.

Ginni Di makes videos on YouTube. I think about cosplay and 5E.
The question, is her advice sound?

That's a different question from Kerstmanneke82's original post, where the question is "Is she fake?"  She could give bad advice and not be a good DM, but still be genuine. There are a lot of bad DMs out there.

I just looked up her Youtube. She started making fantasy cosplay videos about 7 years ago, and started making D&D videos about 4 years ago. That doesn't seem that odd to me. I've known a few other young women who are into both cosplay and D&D.

My point is she could be an actor who never heard of D&D and I don't think it matter if whomever wrote the script knows what they are talking about.

Greetings!

I've watched Ginny Di's YouTube videos for a few years now. She's sweet, cute, and funny. I certainly don't agree with her on everything, but she seems cool and sincere. Basically a nice, sweet, chirpy gamer girl.

Most people on youtube come across as fake. 90% of the stuff I get reccomended on my feed is clickbaity garbage.

Who the fuck is Ginny Di and why should people care?

A girl into costuming and then got into D&D and does videos about it. DM advice, player advice. Ideas for combining costuming with RPGs and also just normal gaming stuff like painting minis.

Her vids are well made overall and while I do not agree with some advice or some viewpoints, I think she is doing ok with it so far.

To the OP. No she does not come across as fake. She has been doing RPG vids for like 4 years now? Is anyone new to RPGing now going to be called fake?

Though in all fairness what made you think she was not legit? Mercer comes across as less legit than this gal? The celebrity that did the Evermore tour came across as very fake in comparison.

That question should probably be spray painted on an overpass somewhere.
