This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'm Reading/Running/Playing/Planning...

We haven't done one of these for a while, and it's always nice to see what people are doing, gaming-wise right now.

So post what you're Reading, Running, Playing, or Planning.  Give a much or little detail as you want.  If you'd like, you can also post a quick sentence summary listing: "I'm Enjoying It Because..." or I'm NOT Enjoying It Because..."

One Horse Town

I'm reading FASERIP (which i never got round to playing back in the day), i'm not currently running anything. I'm playing in an OSRIC game where we are a mercenary company. I'm planning a Rolemaster game based on the Xa'ar Shadow world book by Terry Amthor.

Caesar Slaad

Reading:
  • Pathfinder Advanced Player's Guide: Interesting, has me contemplating playing D&D (AKA Pathfinder) again. :)
  • Dresden Files: Also interesting, but yet strangely disappointing because, well, despite being a huge FATE-fan, I'm not sure what I'd do with the game. That being said, it seems to me that though I am shy of using my neck of the woods as the basis for a game, it really wouldn't be a bad candidate. Its got rural good-ol boys, Amish, some of the oldest Churches in North America, an isolated island with its own culture, and a high tech military base.
Running: Fantasy Craft in Freeport. The players are enjoying it immensely and seem to really dig their characters. I'm principally running adventures using seeds out of Cults of Freeport and Buccaneers of Freeport, but am finding more and more I need to add lots of my own material to flesh it out. I'm really proud of the way the last adventure went, but am not sure what to do next.

Playing: Last game I played was Call of Cthulhu, wherein my investigator died due to a bout of overconfidence. I'm not eager to play CoC again anytime soon; it's sort of a "has been" game to me that has long felt like it was at odds with the source material.

Planning: Two games for DC Gameday. 1 will be Spycraft; the other is TBD, but probably Pathfinder or Diaspora. Looking forward to the former because I have a pretty dedicated and with-it group growing around the game who always make it fun. The latter two I am eager to run, because I haven't run it in a while (in the case of PF) or ever (for Diaspora)
The Secret Volcano Base: my intermittently updated RPG blog.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

Reading: Pathfinder Gamemastery Guide - I like it because of all the good DMing nuggets in there, but I keep cringing at the narrativist "story" logic that keeps permeating its contents.

Pathfinder Advanced Player's Guide - just scratched the surface of that one, but all the different options to swap racial traits and then the benefits from favored classes according to your character's race already makes me feel like it's not wasted money. I'm just starting on the new classes now.

Running: The Jade Lantern, my OD&D game. Mostly played with my wife, with one shots here and there with friends in France and back here in Canada. It's taking place in an alternate Greyhawk setting I built with pieces of French Brittany, my Black Abbey stuff, some bits and pieces from other game products like Castle Whiterock, some Paizo modules, Necromancer Games stuff like Rappan Athuk and Bard's Gate, and more. It's pretty cool. (I know. I should update the blog - too busy right now).

Playing: Nothing at the moment. I have a Mythus game up in the air with a cool DM out there who just discovered the game, but I don't know where we're at with this possibility yet.

Planning/Building: I'm building the Medieval Eurth as an alternate pseudo-medieval D&D setting, building my Tower of St. Makhab dungeon as a test field for my Black Abbey of St. Yessid, and I'm thinking of introducing role playing games to children at the local school during its Game Nights. Options are open for the latter, since I haven't even decided on a game system or anything. It's something that I will think more about in the next coming weeks.

I'm running an espionage StarCluster 3 game over IRC, set on a neutral world in the middle of a system-wide war. Don't know which set of mechanics we're using, but some of the characters are an uplifted octopus, a rebellious android "second wife", a wolf-human (genetically engineered) cross, and more coming. I don't know which mechanics set we are using yet.

In my face to face game, I'm running a criminal organization StarCluster 3 game with setting not yet done. We're using the StarNova mechanics.

I have another IRC StarCluster 3 game coming up as well. Nothing decided yet.

Probably should have started:

Reading: StarCluster 3 Beta, which is hot. Getting my head around the different types of resolution available.  Also still reading/writing some stuff for Shadow, Sword, & Spell.

Running:
Actually, I'm off at the moment!  I think the next game I run will be a Warrior, Rogue & Mage one-shot for my group.

Playing:  We're playing in a great Bureau 13 game (the old Tri-Tac RPG from c. 1983), but this Friday, since the B13 GM is out, it's a Hackmaster 4e one-shot!  Once B13 is done, one of our guys wants to run some Pathfinder.  We have no shortage of games to run!  I'd like to try Fiasco, but don't know if anyone else is up for it.

Planning:
Man, lots of things.  I'd like to do an ICONS mini-arc, I have a Traveller game I owe my group, and I'm working on a big ol' Shadow Sword & Spell super-campaign for down the road.  I'm also working on a little sourcebook proposal for a company, but I don't want to jinx it, so enough about that.  Not that the odds are stellar, anyways.

The Shaman

Reading: I'm reading a lot as always, but no gaming books.

Running: Cold Warriors, a Top Secret play-by-post set in 1980s Africa.

Playing: Got my annual D&D fix at So Cal Mini-Con III, in which I ran an 11th level Cleric through the Necropolis, written by Gary Gygax for Dangerous Journeys and converted to 1e AD&D by T. Foster. We survived, and even profited a little, but it was insanely difficult and more than once we found ourselves staring into an impending TPK.

Planning: Le Ballet de l'Acier, a Flashing Blades campaign. I'm even collecting minis for the game.
On weird fantasy: "The Otus/Elmore rule: When adding something new to the campaign, try and imagine how Erol Otus would depict it. If you can, that\'s far enough...it\'s a good idea. If you can picture a Larry Elmore version...it\'s far too mundane and boring, excise immediately." - Kellri, K&K Alehouse

I have a campaign wiki! Check it out!
