This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Greetings All

Cool... but I have to warn you, I am terrible at relating gaming stories and even worse, tend to be longwinded about them. Great combo, eh? I will skip the load of backstory and get straight to the specific "moment."

So, think final battle of the kickoff scenario of my latest campaign. The PCs, after having lost their memories due to exposure to a crystal containing insane souls, collected the crystal, tracked down their original employer in hopes of having their memory returned, only to find out that they handed the crystal over to a powerful shapeshifting assassin called the Harvester, have tracked down said crystal and are going to attempt to retrieve it (breathes after his run-on sentence).

Well, the PCs storm the Harvester's safehouse and are met by some of the other agents working with him. As the battle is joined, the Harvester grabs the leaded box holding the glowing, memory-sucking crystal and heads out the back. However, one of the PCs manages to weave through the battle and follow the Harvester. Both of these characters have excellent acrobatic skills and so what follows is a merry chase through the streets of the town.

But, Leopold (the PC) is not catching up and it looks as though the Harvester is going to escape, so he stops, pulls out a throwing axe and takes his shot, hitting and stunning the assassin just long enough to engage him (and incidentally, making him drop the lead box). Now, the real battle is engaged, Leo vs. the Harvester. Both are well-trained duelists who favor high-skill, high-damage, no-armor fighting styles. A duel like this is hideously dangerous in my game system of choice, but also very, very exciting.

Leo and the Harvester exchange blows and blocks for a couple of rounds and finally Leo manages to score a hit, but just a "graze". Then the Harvester connects and wounds Leo in his chest, staggering him. The assassin then tosses a darkness potion to the ground (he could see through this particular darkness cloud) and intends to make his escape. However, Leo manages to gather himself enough to leap on the lead box, even through the darkness.

The Harvester scowls and disdainfully gives Leo a kick to the head, knocking him to the brink of unconsciousness (Leo has already had to make 2 toughness checks to remain conscious and has a single hit point remaining). His vision becoming dark Leo takes his final action before he is defeated and opens the box...

...totally borking a notorious and powerful NPC (he had appeared in and was feared in a couple other campaigns) who was going to have a pretty big part in the coming sessions. I loved it.

Thanks for the cool story, and welcome.

Mouthcooze and Bile, the Flying, Festering Twatmonkies would be outstanding mascots for the podcast. Sort of an old-time radio comedy deal.

Oblivious Gamer: I like to play games: wargames, role-playing games.

When was the last time that I ticked anyone off?

And don't bring upthat thing in Cairo, you know it's water under the bridge.

I was thinking more of the whole Suez debacle.

Probably true of life in general. From my (admittedly short) time reading these boards, I am pretty pleased by the spread and tone of the discussions. My other rpg board de jour seems to have less and less of interest to me as the days roll by, so I am glad I stumbled onto this site.
