I just picked up Power of Faerun this afternoon. :D From skimming through it I would say that a good 50% of it would be useful for any campaign setting. I'll have a full in depth review of it up within a week.
I'm also reading through Races of teh Dragon and hope to be able to have a review of that within the next 2-3 weeks.
i'll be waiting. :D
Its strange because this is one of the first times that I'm sitting down to actually read all the way through a gaming book. Usually its skim, read this section and that section, then slowly absorb the material over the course of several months. Of course I am a fan of teh Forgotten Realms so its not like its a chore or anything.
So, what's the subject matter of PoF. Well, other than the Realms -- I figured that much out.

High level campaigns. A lot of the stuff dealing with politics, kingdoms, militaries, and religions.
Eagerly expecting a review. :D

Define "high level campaigns". Are you talking 10-20, 15-20, or epic?

The majority of material is not level dependent in any way. High level to me would be 15+.
Sorry that I don't have a review up yet but its taking me longer to get through it. :)
I just bought Power of Faerûn myself. It's high-level, not in the "let's kill a Red dragon instead of a White one" sense, but in the OD&D/Birthright sense of managing domains. There's stuff on court intrigues, waging war and maintaining armies, running churches, trade, and other stuff like that.
So far, it seems good. There's an awful lot of references to other books, but usually in non-intrusive ways (e.g. "here's a list of Leadership modifiers, including stuff from four other books")

Can't hold it against you. I'm still trying to figure out when I'll get my review of "Tome of Magic" done.
Wake me when they release "Slayer's Guide to Elminster." It'll be the best-selling FR product ever. :)

If you want to shit in a thread go somewhere else asshole.
Oh, quit being a goddamn crybaby. A little joke never hurt anyone. If you're that thin-skinned, go back to RPG.Net. I'm sure the nannymods there will make sure that you have to encounter even the slightest, most tongue-in-cheek criticism of anyone or anything.

Only those that have been run into the ground over and over and over.
Dickweed. :)

Children, chill the fuck out.
Yamo, If you wan't to make an "elminster licks my nuts, and by extension all of forgotten realms is fucking gay" kind of thread, I won't stop you. I might even be amused. But seriously, try not to threadcrap on the people who are seriously discussing a new book.

Who said that? I own lots of FR stuff. I just don't take it real serious, I guess.

If your not going to contribute anything to the thread then get the fuck out of it.
:boobies: Ok....everyone feel better? How can boobies not make ya feel better? :heh:
Anyway, how does the realm stuff compare to the realm management rules in Fields of Blood? As I'm not general a FR fan (although I'm playing a character in a FR campaign right now), and I have Fields of Blood already, is there anything in PoF that would be useful to me. I am interested down the road in possibly running a high society, scion level campaign so I'm genuinely curious.

I'll second that! :)

As to mechanics on actual realm management its next to nothing. The vast majority of the book is fluff/flavor. Information on gain, keeping and running a realm. If your looking for only crunch numbers so that you can roll an find out if it was feast or famine I would suggestion Expeditious Retreats
A Magic Medival Society: Western Europe and city guide is also very good.
K, TY much.
