This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I am not a "Noob"

Oh golly, I'm irritated today. I was reading some threads on the new MMIV on some other boards. I'm getting my ire up and my patience with people who have an overblown sense of their own intellectual superiority is coming to an end. The premise that somehow I'm a terrible DM or a NOOB because I find the stuff in the new MM useful.

I will say without shame or fear of retribution that I like the new MMIV format. I like the statted out humanoids. I like the lairs and encounter ideas. I love the knowledge check charts.

I hope WoTC continues publishing books using this new format until these fucking euphuistic, high-minded twerps jump screaming from a helicopter.

Man!! Geez!!!

Most people here aren't going to know what you are talking about :).

I like MMIV too, especially the encounters and the new format. One thing it allowed me to do a lot easier than I have done before was just improvise encounters.

I didn't even know the product existed, so I read a quick review.  I rarely buy monster books because I like humanoid villains.  But lair maps and stat blocks that could be used for leaders would be very useful - stuff I could do but it's paying for a book to cut prep time.  So, it's not crammed with 300 monsters, no one has to buy it.

It sounds like I should check that book out.  Those guys were being dillholes.

The sections on Drow were the encounters I used- a drow priestess, a drow ranger (lolth touched template), and the drow snipers. They were all statted out and equipped and everything, and they just happened to fit the current plotline, so I gave them names and used them as npcs.

I suppose my only complaint is that this a slightly slim book , and it is different from all previous monster books.

oh, you can do better than that! Only 5 on the rant-o-meter.

Yeah, I hate it whem people think they are some sort of intellectual because they point out how dumb you are if you play "X" game or use "X" book. It's just stupid. If gaming required any sort of intellect, I think there would be a whole lot less people gaming.

That actually looks really cool. I love the monster itself, and the inclusion of a sample environment and other info is awesome.

I also think anyone who calls someone "noob" and means it to be an insult is a fucking loser. Tell the asshats hassling you to sign on here and try that shit.

I just wish Wizards would have bothered telling me how a creature's hit points were calculated.

I know I can reverse-engineer it from the hit dice, the creature type, and their Constitution, (oh and size stuff for constructs), but I really don't want to.  I buy monster books so I don't need to do the work.
