This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

And it needed a thread on an internet board to sort this out when you guys game with each other? Oh dear...:flop:

This is relatively tame. I want, the "you fucked my character over for the last time...you motherfucker" post or "just be quiet and be my history bitch" post :what:

I owe you an apology, Pundit. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that Jong was posting about your game (simply because I wouldn't call out my GM on a public forum under the guise of a 'help me hypothetical' post). With what you've contributed here, my position has changed. Still, I shall recant my earlier suggestion and bite my tongue as I have no desire to get involved in an argument of a personal nature between two forum participants.

Quote from: SpikeJimbo complaining about his players here I can see, he had no idea they frequented the place, but Jong's gotta KNOW, if anyone does, that Pundit reads shit here.
In my case, the problem was not the initial complaint and question, but the length of the discussion that followed, and the tone that developed. This I think is similar to what often happens with emails - you fire them back and forth, angrier and angrier... in person, you'd restrain yourself a bit, and also be less offended by what the other person was saying.

Quote from: SpikeMakes for good drama though.
Definitely. For drama, what I'd really like to see is the player appear here in this SJGames thread, "Seeking GM Advice: Character/Player IQ disparity".

In this thread here, I tried to respond to Jong's obviously personal point in a general way. The general answer is that it's always better to talk to your group. If they won't listen, then it's off to find a new group.

I do agree that this whole issue has probably been blown out of proportion, especially if Jong himself is saying so. I'm sure we'll be able to figure this out.

You know, I've seen issues of faith and Christianity cause hard feelings because of stuff that happens _outside_ of the game, but never because of stuff happening _in_ one.  Guess there's a first for everything.  :)

Glad to see it's all working out.

Amusing given that neither of those involved are Christians.

Quote from: RPGPundit*sigh* holy motherfucking god.. I said that. Multiple times. I had Marcus specifically say that maybe as Antoninus' son he could try to soften Antoninus' very reactionary anti-christian position, and save the christians from persecution.  I didn't hint it, I didn't suggest it, I said it just like that.

So clearly, that's NOT what Jong wanted out of all this.

Dang, now I'm as baffled as you are.

Question to Jong: it sounds like that Marcus is very definitely a "fellow traveller" even if he isn't a Christan per se. Exactly what more do you want? Why is it so personally important to you that Marcus, specifically Marcus, declares himself a Christian?
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

It's probably something to do with that particular Marcus looking destined to be an Emperor some day. "I wrote the Gospel followed by the Emperor himself". In this way, the religion invented by Jong's character may become the religion of all Europe.

If you're going to be immortal, you may as well have a go at being a prophet, too.

Jong is the one true god, and Quintus was his Prophet.

When in doubt about the motivations of players and their characters, assume enormous, ridiculous ambition.

In which case he's still going about it the wrong way. Being Emperor and commanding everyone to join a religion which already has a whole heap of afficionados is one thing. Being Emperor and commanding everyone to join a religion which is composed of a) the Emperor, and b) that guy who used to be the Emperor's daddy (who might have already faked his own death by this point) is another thing, especially when it's a form of that religion which is actively offensive to all the other Christian sects.

Jong needs to come up with some actual co-religionists, stat. Which makes his distress at Marcus himself not converting more understandable, but unless he does the groundwork of building his own sect how can he expect Marcus to support it when he comes to power?

Well, I don't know, I'm only speculating. If you want to know how to found a new religion, you'll have to talk to a second-rate science fiction writer. I'm only a third-rate rpg writer.

This would have been a great post for The Forge.

Imagine the heaping scorn on the disempowerment of the player, the deprotagonization...the GM fiat..

And once they found out it was Pundit?!?!

It would have been...fantastic...talk about a pass-the-popcorn-and-snowcaps moment.... :haw:

NOTE: none of which is an indictment of either Pundit or Jong...this is just the typical GM/Player misunderstanding...
